Hey everyone, welcome to Photoshop Pro Help, today I'm going to be teaching you how to
recolour a black and white image, now have you ever seen a really
nice black and white image and thought to your self, you know what I'd love to
see that in colour, well now you can
it's really quick, easy and simple
all you have to do is get a really good selection on things
now we are going to jump into our image that we are going to recolour
so once you have uploaded it to photoshop we are going to go to "IMAGE"
then go to "MODE" and then go to "CMYK COLOUR"
and then we are going to click "OK" in the pop up box that comes up
and from there we are going to go over to the quick selection tool that's on the left hand side
now you don't have to use this quick selection tool you can use any other ways
of selecting things in Photoshop
and there are quite a few
so please experiment, choose different ways depending on your image and how much
detail you have I would suggest doing it by hand, you refine the image a lot
more and it comes out a lot more crisper
play around with things like that
and you can get a really nice effect, so from here we are going to select our sky first of all
and we are going to get a really good selection of this, now don't forget you can
just go up to the top and click the minus tool
and just go over what you don't want in your image with the selection and just take it out
now once you have got a really nice selection on your picture
now i would suggest zooming in and lowering your brush size
and just getting in the cracks and crevices
just to get all the detail in
so once we have made a really nice selections I'm just going to make my selection, I've already
selected everything just to speed up the tutorial,
we are going to go over and click "refine edge" at the top and we are going to put some "smart radius" on
and we are going to pus the "radius" to around about 20 to 25 pixels
depending on how detailed your image is, you really have to play around with this setting
so once we have done that we are going to click "ok"
and we are going to go to the "adjustments layers" at the bottom right hand side
and you will see this black and white circle, click that and then go up to "curves"
and from here we are going to go to the "CMYK colour" drop down menu and we are going to click "cyan"
and we are just going to bring this up a tad
like that and then we are going to go to the drop down menu again and go to "yellow" and we are just going to bring this down
now you really have to play around with this to get the right colour, you really just have to know
what sort of colours you want for your images
so I'm just going to do this really quickly, from here
we are just going to do exactly the same what we just did
to everything else, so you want to work on bit
by bit, so we worked on the sky, we are going to work on the tree's next
and next from that will be the wheat
now if you don't have the same sort of image that I'm working on, you might have a person
you might want to work on piece by piece like the eyes, the hair, the skin
and the tops and the cloths like that
so once again we are just going to go to the "quick selection tool"
or any other way that you want to select things
and make a really nice selection and we are just going to go to "refine edge"
20 to 25 pixels again like I said and then go to the "adjustments layers" at he bottom right hand side, go to "curves"
go to the drop down menu and go to "cyan"
and now we need a nice green for this so we are going to bring the cyan up a bit, about there
and then we are just going to go to "yellow" and bring this down a bit, around about there
sorry I mean up not down obviously
and then we are just going to hide that and then we are going to go and do exactly the same what we did for
everything else so we are going to do the wheat next so we are going to make a selection
and go to your "refine edge" 20 to 25 pixels and then go to your adjustments icon and then go to "curves"
and now we need a nice yellow, so we are going to go to "cyan" and bring this down
and then we are going to go to "magenta"
and then we are going to bring this up a bit
you need to be pretty careful with this colour as it can be very strong
and then we are going to go to "yellow" and bring this up so we get a nice golden colour, once you have done that you can hide that
and that's pretty much done, all you have to do is work piece by piece that's all you have to do and it's pretty much the same thing
now once you have done everything you can do loads of other effects like
take the clouds for instance, all clouds aren't going to be blue obviously so you might want to go to the "burn tool"
and you might just want to darken the bottom of the clouds and then go to the "dodge tool" and just lighten the tops
just to make it a lot more realistic and look a lot better
now don't stop there, expand on the idea and be more creative
and that's pretty much finished
