My classroom experience at IUP actually really helped me prepare for my internship. So I
did my internship this past summer with Kitchen and Bath Designs by Betsy House in Stonington,
Connecticut. She basically just let me shadow with her. She took me to every single thing
that she went to. I met with clients, I helped with preliminary design work, I went to the
stoneyards when they did their templates. I found with the IUP program that it’s a
really good balance of “yes, we have the art classes,” but it’s also a lot more
business practical minded that will help you when you get out into the field and you’re
not just… you don’t have just painting background, you have real background in lighting
materials and finishes, textiles, you know. You get residential kitchen and bath, commercial
design, office design, all the different aspects of it.
