>> LANA: The Community-University forum is going to be
in Warren, Minnesota on April 27th
>> ANNA: On April 27th in Warren, Minnesota
>> MURIEL: On Saturday, April 27th.
[music]
>> ANNA: The Community Connect forum, it's our 6th annual
This is actually our first year going into northwest Minnesota
It's typically been held just in North Dakota,
but we realize that northwestern Minnesota
deals with a lot of the same issues as North Dakota as well.
>> LANA: The theme of the forum this year is "Sustainable Communities."
It's a theme that we've heard other communities talk about,
when they've talked about how do we keep our civic leadership going,
how do we develop new economic prospects for our community,
what are the kind of environmental things we should be doing,
what's on the horizon for things that are changing about the environment?
So all of those kinda come together under this theme of "Sustainable Communities".
>> MURIEL: We'll start off the day with a plenary panel
that I'm really excited about that will feature three experts
on each of the pillars of sustainability.
That will be followed by two different break-out sessions,
one that will be kind of on the models of sustainability for each pillar,
and then in then in the afternoon we'll do kind of brainstorming break-out sessions
with a facilitator to think about all the different ways
that we can actually put these sustainability models into use in our own communities.
>> LANA: At lunch we'll be hearing from Warren,
who has really taken sustainability seriously, it's done a number of things
including being designated as a GreenStep Cities in Minnesota.
>> MURIEL: We also will be doing a cash mob in the afternoon
where all of the participants of the forum and certainly anybody else in the community
is invited to come downtown with us and check out the shops
and we're suggesting that you spend ten dollars
just to help boost the economy of Warren.
But it's also a really interesting event idea
that I think a lot of communities might be able to use
in their own downtowns or their own shops.
>> LANA: There will also be an opportunity to visit the Audubon center,
which is a fabulous resource a few miles outside of Warren.
And then we'll end with a reception and an opportunity for people
to learn a little more about Warren's history, through it's Historical Society
and some of its very interesting museum and pioneer village.
>> ANNA: We really want to try and aim for rural community members
all across North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
We also want faculty and students from different universities to attend.
We'd love for students to be able to see a role for themselves
in rural communities after graduation.
>> LANA: And people just really enjoy this.
It's a great day to visit another community.
So a great opportunity and we'd love to see everyone there.
>> ANNA: People can register for the forum by going online
to CommunityEngagement.UND.edu and click on the registration link.
There is also a schedule there and additional details.
