I am Neophytos Neophytou, the producer of the radio program ‘Come Cypriots, let’s talk’.
This program that we are doing now started a few years ago,
it’s not a new program, it’s been airing for a long time ,
and the translation bit is the most important part of the program.
Without the translator the program wouldn’t work.
Its very important because if you get a word wrong in this kind of programme,
it might cause misunderstandings or other things
but the translation we have right now is working pretty well.
It’s the only bilingual and bi-communal program on Cyprus radio.
The second season deals with more current affairs,
issues that concern the coexistence of Greek and Turkish Cypriots;
it is mainly an informative program.
It was suggested by Şener Elcil, General Secretary of the Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union.
They bought Radio Mayis and he said there is an opportunity to collaborate with Astra so lets start working on it.
We are presented with an opportunity with huge potential
since the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Chambers of Commerce
have sponsored this show with a respectable grant
allowing us to purchase live-link equipment
which will enable the coverage of outdoor bicommunal events.
So, from next year, the show will be a live program and will cover bicommunal and bilingual events
as well as other topics of interest for the two communities
such as the big protests of the Turkish Cypriots,
meetings, talks and news related to the Cyprus problem.
My relationship with Neophytos is very good.
We understand each other despite the language barrier.
We still manage to understand what we say, what we think, and it reflects on the program that we’re doing at the moment.
This program is unique, based on the feedback that we receive from the audience.
It fills a gap in the relationship and the communication between the two communities.
