Hey and Hello to this little unboxing
here with the Regulators
Recently I unboxed the Asus Radeon HD 7970 DC2
installed it into my personal system
so 7970 crossifre
micro stuttering like hell, it was unplayable
fps were pretty high
but the micro stuttering was so overwhelming
I just could not stay with that config
I figured that the first card, which I do not have warranty any more for,
because I mounted an aftermarket cooler on it, that card was causing the problem
So in the end 7970 crossfire did not work for me
at least not with this particular configuration
So I sent the new DC2 card back, sold the old one
and now we will have a look, what is inside this box
as an alternative
oldschool
with the cardboard box
arrived just 10 minutes ago with the Deutsche Post (german mail)
so lets open this up
very professional, with the scissors
not with the "trusty knife"
like at TechOfTomorrow
alright
a lot of packaging material
a bill, which nobody needs to see
and a graphics card
box
soo focus
focus, woohoo
so, this is
the Asus "DC2", thats what I stay with
Geforce GTX 680
And until now there were 3 versions available
the "normal", the overclocked edition
clocking a bit higher than reference cards
and then there was the "top" edition that was clocking up to 1201 MHz stock
in boost mode of course
which the newest nvidia cards all have
but non of those I bought
but the new version with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory
As you might know I use
1440p 120Hz monitor
and thats were this big amount of memory comes into play
So, thats why 680 with 4 GB
and from asus
because the cooler, alright, it is big and not that beautiful
but it performs very well and is very quiet
and to be hones, for me a video card does not have to be that pretty
considering that I will see it only from the side anyways
so what else do we have here, we have
digi+ vrm super alloy power components
for stable overclocking
they are simply very high quality components
which makes overclocking much more easy and stable
GPU Tweak, to be fair,
its just MSI afterburner by asus
you can overclock the card
and with nvidia cards adjust the boost clock
4 GB GDDR5 memory, I just covered that
PCIe 3.0, double the data bandwith
standard since ivy-bridge, obviously
we leave the system requirements aside for now
and we move to the back side
Am I in the middle of the video? yes I am. I know, not very professional, but it works
here we see again directcu2 cooler
20% cooler and vastly quieter
so an awesome cooler basically
again the digivrm super alloy power components
need less power and last longer
so just better components
makes sense to use them. GPUtweak, here we can see a picture
you can slide some sliders and monitor stuff
its red and not green (like MSI afterburner)
and then we can see here the backside of the card
its a dual slot card, not a triple slot one
As far as I know the cooler is the same as on the 670 DC2 cards
smaller than the other 680s by Asus and of course it has 4 GB memory
It has got 2 DVI-I dual link connectors
(digital and analog)
you can plug every kind of dvi connector into them
for example convert them to vga (which you should really not do with a card like this)
and a full size hdmi port and a full size display port
of course you can convert the signal by using adapters
nothing more to say, I guess
I am going to go on here with pulling this latch out
flip the box over
damaged the box slightly, me badass
squeaking boxes, we know that from other unboxings
(adjusting the position)
I should really mark the right position, nevermind
"Asus, inspiring inovation, persistent perfection" just like with the 7970 unbocking last time
So
Then a little different then the last time
we have a big box with all the accessories
additional stuff that come with the card
a dual molex to pcie 6-pin adapter
speed set up guide, in color
every double page is in one language
how do I build a graphics card into my computer, how to plug it in and so on
a driver dvd with gpu tweak
Of course, it is recommended
to always download the latest drivers from the nvidia/asus website
especially because the GeForce Experience Launced some days ago
so it is definitely better to download the latest ones
nothing more inside here
that was the floor
soft foam, protecting the product better from impacts than hard one
again foam
and then there is still the card its self left
put the box away
So lets open it up
hang on, I just ground my self shortly
just like in every unboxing
I felt a little hit
Oh, I was near the microphone, that might have been loud
So
Pull that plastic off there
alright, looks really awesome already
So yeah
backplate, made out of brushed aluminum
It says Asus, Geforce GTX 680
in the middle a little cutout where the gpu sits
lets go this side
here are the two sli connectors
with the silicone covers
here we see the three heatpiptes going out
leading back there
the two 6-pin pcie power connectors
just like the reference 680
they seem to have gone with that design
Of course, the card is not designed for massive oc, but for high res using the 4 GB of memory
then on top
or the bottom, depends on how you want to look at it
the two fans
on the direct cu2 cooler which is 20% cooler
red stripes
on the one side three heatpipes leading to the right
and on the other side two leading to the left
asymmetric layout of the heatsink
brings a good balance in therms of heat output
fan connector
pcie 3.0 16x interface
if you look inside here
I hope, that I was not out of the screen all the time
you see these steps of the heatsink getting thinner to the end
that is also a feature
of the 670 DC2 cooler
so a look at the I/O
(focusing the camera, making a bad joke)
here are the two said dvi-ports
oh, one is digital and analog
and the other one is just digital
hdmi and displayport
not much more to say I guess
there are some LEDs indicating the power delivery
no voltage measurement and control points like on the 7970 DC2
but that is like already said, because this card is not so much layed on oc
but running more memory and running stable
at high resolutions
and I guess that is it
Thanks for watching
I hope you liked it, if it did, dont forget to hit the like button
sub, comment, favour
see you next time, ciao!
