Hello! My name is Franklin Smith. I am an employment specialist for the Deaf Service
Bureau. I am here to talk about what? How volunteering
can lead to find a job. Those people with disabilities cannot find a job, on their resumes
they have no working history, no work experienceÑwhat to do?
Find volunteer opportunities. Volunteering is the best way to meet people, network, and
that leads to finding a job. They see you work, Òoh he works hard, he
knows what he is doing. I know someone that can hire you.Ó Then meet that person.
Now, I am going to show you one example how volunteering works. One of my clients with
a disability is in a wheelchair. He has had no working experience for ten years. He wants
to be able to find a job. How? By volunteering. How volunteers at the Family Justice Center,
FJC. Come on, I show you.
Now you see one example of how volunteering helps you find job. This guy works at the
Family Justice Center. What does he do? He organizes files for the new clients that come
in. Now I am going to introduce you to him.
