Hi I'm Daniel Allen with the Sacramento Association of REALTORS and I am here with Jennifer Odama
to bring you this month's Tech Tip. As REALTORS you know that your data is your livelyhood, everything's
on your mobile phone, on the computer, but if something was to happen to your phone or your computer
if your data was gone what would you do? This month's Tech Tip, we're talking about backing up your
information
So one of the things, one of the utilities that you can use is called Carbonite
and we are going to show you really quick how to actually download a trial version
A trial version is a great way to test out the product and to see if you like it
to see if that works for you and most of time you don't even have to provide
any credit card information or anything like that. It's a free trial and after it expires
if you want your renew or
sign up for their service you can do so at that time
so let's take a look
so we're here at carbonite.dot com that's C-A-R-B-O-N-I-T-E dot com
and over here on the right side of the home page it says start your free trial for fifteen
days
and so I went ahead and entered in my email address and then a password
and then here at the bottom here it says "start your free trial" we're just going to click that
It's going to quickly ask you how you heard about Carbonite and so in my case I heard it from another REALTOR
So I'm going to click that option
I don't see that here so I'm going to click other
and what Carbonite does is it actually backs up all the files on your computer to an online
storage system so if your laptop, if you don't have access to your laptop or your laptop dies
(Heaven forbid) then you can go online actually, do a full restore on to a brand new laptop
so here you can see the buttons says "install now" you're going to click that
and then it's going to begin to install. Actually I already did that to save some time so I'm just going to show you
what it will do is there will be an icon on your laptop... or on your desktop
you are just going to double click it to open
you are going to see options here. When you install Carbonite it's actually going to immediately start the
backup... don't worry... if you need to power down your computer because
you're done for the day. As soon as you power it back up the next day day it will actually resume the backup
process. It will take a couple days for the first time because again it's going through and
backing up of all of your files
so the great thing about it though is when you go in the next time after you do that
full back up the first time
it's just going to save the new files that are on your computer
so it'll be much... it'll take much less time but again it's very reasonable, it's under sixty
dollars for an annual subscription and you can try it out for a free for fifteen days
and just keep in mind there's a lot of different products make sure that you look at what the
different... what the system requirements are so that...
you know that you might be able to get the right product for you and again there's products
for your backing up your laptop, your desktop computers and also your
smart phone and your mobile devices okay
Thanks Jennifer, Carbonite sounds like a great product but you want to make sure you do your
due diligence it may not be the product for you but if you check out this month's newsletter
for our Tech Tip article in there we mention a couple other products that
are similar to Carbonite that may interest you a little bit more. I would like to thank Jennifer Odama
for joining me in SAR studios here and stay tuned for next month's Tech Tip.
Thanks for watching Bye bye
