The Institute for Public Health Practice promotes the linkage between
the academic and service endeavors of the University of Iowa College of Public
Health, with public health practitioners at the local, state, and federal levels.
Established in 1999, the Institute has developed as a central
point of coordination for several related, but distinct, programs. It houses the
Upper Midwest Public Health Training Center, funded by the Health Resources
and Services Administration,
and the Upper Midwest Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Center,
funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
At the heart of these centers is the goal of enhancing the public health
workforce in Iowa and the upper midwest through competency-based training and
community-focused collaborations.
We recognize how busy the public health workforce is; constantly striving to
accomplish more with fewer resources. So to make the most of users' time,
our adaptive, scenario-based courses incorporate assessment and training so
that users receive content specific to what they don't know.
By demonstrating mastery of competencies, they can essentially test out of
the material they already know. Some of our other scenario-based training
models offer users a self-directed learning experience, providing help
resources so they can learn as they go.
Whether you want to provide online courses, web-based toolkits or webinars,
our staff can help you meet your public health workforce development and
training needs.
The media production and graphic design team at the Institute for Public Health
Practice offer services such as video recording, video editing, live event
webcasting, motion graphics, DVD or CD production and duplication, and graphic
design.
Providing professional quality visual and audio components, our creative team
is an integral part of developing engaging training materials in a variety
of formats. Are you hosting a face-to-face training or seminar?
Ask us about providing video recording and production to help your training
content reach a wider audience.
The Institute and its centers provide technical assistance in web development,
content management, and online media production to state and local public
agencies and partners. We've helped public health organizations create or
redesign their websites, establish a social media presence, and incorporate
registration systems for membership and events. An extensive catalogue of
our online trainings and toolkits is available in our Learning Management
System. In the LMS, we're also able to create customized learning portals for
our partners.
These portals provide users with easy-to-find, one-stop access to the training
materials they need.
Serving as a liaison between public health organizations and the University
of Iowa College of Public Health, the Institute coordinates a number of
practice-based learning experiences for the next generation of the public health
workforce.
Several times a year, we solicit internship proposals from organizations,
share them with students, coordinate interviews and placement, and, in some
cases, through our HRSA-funded Upper Midwest Public Health Training
Center, are even able to provide funding for internship positions.
These internships provide students with real-world practice-based experience and,
at the same time,
help public health organizations provide valuable programs and services to
communities. Whatever your training and strategic needs may be, from an online
training course, a webinar, or a more functional website to communicate your
public health mission,
our creative team at the Institute for Public Health Practice can develop
engaging, research-supported, high-quality materials.
