Hello.
We are beginning MobileTalk, our program about ideas,
tendencies and business of the digital area and the mobile market.
In today's program we are going to talk
about application development for
smartphones, tablets and computers.
with the Teacher Dr. Cristiana Mattos Assumpção
from Colégio Bandeirantes, with Melissa Beltrão
the Mobile Director of Yahoo and with
Martin Restrepo, General Director of MobileMonday São Paulo.
We have a special coverage directly from Barcelona
about the Mobile World Congress made by Ronaldo Fernandes
who will be here in our studio to talk about the news
that he saw over there.
You can be a part of our program as well,
send your message to talk@momosp.com.br
or interact via our twitter, the account is @momosp
or using #mobiletalk
to illustrate our program today
we have a phrase from Lis Wetzel:
"Discover what the consumer wants it's easy.
Do something with it, that is not so simple".
Now we have a impacting information
to the mobile market here in MobileTalk:
Almost 8 billions mobile applications were downloaded in 2010.
The application market experienced
a large growth in 2010
and even with the large growth of the Android Market,
the application store from Apple still leading
the market responding for 5,6 billion
downloads in a total of 7,9 billion of applications
downloaded worldwide in 2010.
The study made by ABI Search shows
that the application sores will go in a strong competition
in 2011, when copared
the volume of the application in the catalog
the display of around 130 mil application in 48 countries
in the Android is not even half of the displayed in the Apple Store,
that is for now. Well, this fight has only begun.
The development of new applications for smartphones,
tablets and computers, is growing in accelerated way
and that is so that some applications
are unifying to offer applications for
all the types of platforms that the user desires.
To talk about what are the opportunities in these area
and tell her experience I receive the Teacher Doctor
Cristiana Mattos Assumpção - technology coordinator
of Bandeirantes School, thank you Cristiana
for your presence in our program.
I thank you for the invitation and it is an honor to be here debating
such a new and important subject that highly affects education.
I receive also Melissa Beltrao who is the Mobile Director of Yahoo!
Melissa, thank you for your presence | Congratulations for the iniciative
I think MobileMonday TV is one more channel
one more opportunity that we have to share information
knowledge, clear some doubts and mainly debate, discuss | Thank You
And also we count with the presence of Martin Restrepo
the Co-Founder of MobileMonday São Paulo
Martin, thank you for your presence once more in the show
Thanks Fernando again, I am very happy to debate a theme
that is so important at this time, let's try to understand a little bit
more on how it works and what are the opportunities.
Before we begin our debate I would like you to see
a special news that I believe describes best this growth
on the mobile market, through an actual and creative iniciative
Virtual Taxi stand, good morning.
My name is Orlando, I live in Mooca, professional taxi driver
I am on this business for a while, I owned a radio taxi company before
the cost of the radio taxi was very high and I sold my share of the radio
I always had a project of creating a different taxi stand
I went to google maps, subscribed the local stand here with names and
address, told a little history and placed a taxi icon
when I enter google I see traffic in real time
and the car icon where it is going, so all these people
that works with me, we will all put this handsets and I will
know where are all the units through their car icons inside Mooca
I like the informatics systems a lot, I don't understand much
but I like programs and systems a lot, but I don't understand, I have the ideas
How I created the radio system called radio taxi in which I have the website
which is www.radiotaxiligacao.com.br,
then came the idea of creating a virtual taxi stand as an arm of the radio taxi
one gets client to the other
in the radio, for example, I had a monthly cost as I was one of the participants
as an owner as well, out of that I had a monthly cost
for administration around R$ 700,00 per month.
Here I don't have this cost anymore, I have this smartphone
as they say from the factory the Ipaq of HP that integrates with the mobile system
inside my work I use the google maps
this map I have all the configurations of the virtual taxi stand
that has a central phone number
the clients here from Mooca neighborhood that uses the google search engine
they will research for a taxi in Mooca and our name will appear there
Taxi Mooca - Virtual Stand, then the client has the option
to call our central or not, he can come through message
he comes through our central phone and coming through e-mail
they access the contact, our address is contato@radiotaxiligação.com.br
and in our e-mail inbox he can make the arrangements
and so I receive here in the smartphone, I receive on the central where the computers are
and immediately get that service order and pass to our colleagues through the Nextel radio.
It is interesting to see these initiatives emerging by the users
that is the user having the real power of modifying the mobile market
Melissa how do you see the development of applications in the market, today in brazilian market?
I have to leave my comment, watching this article
he is simply an entrepreneur of new medias
he was able to make what we call a cross media, he crossed the mobile, Internet, Maps on the Internet
to support his job, to enhance his business
this is very interesting, in fact, to us, thinkers, educators
executives in these market, you all as well.
In the final part this is what we want, that people that uses, on the format of entertaiment
format of business, uses in the best way possible and on the more simple way possible
that reaches all their objectives without suffering to being able to understand
without being an expert in technology, that is exactly, in the end, what we want
when we develop, when we launch a product, when we market a product
mobile products, internet products in the market, this is what we want
Cristiana, how do you see for education, the applications, the tables and the smartphones?
How it is the entering in the education market?
Look, I think it is right like Melissa just said
the intuitive makes it way more accessible
I think this will be the real acessibility
the user will explore, will be able to see, exchange, interact in a very intuitive way
And this will open many new horizons, not only for people to receive content, but to create content
Interesting, one doubt that I have and I believe many people have
Do you believe that notebooks and tablets will replace the writebooks and books?
Eventually yes, because there are many more possibilities. The book can be work in a different way here inside
the write book has many more productivity programs
the student can write, they can make interactive activities
we already saw many applications that we see that he draws, paints
he participates, writes, he speaks, it is not only written media, you have other senses that are explored
all the formats of education, all types of learning
Nice, Martin, you opened one mobile edition for content, editing books to mobile content
How do you see the growth of this market and how do you believe in it up to opening your business on it
We started the Editacuja company with the objective of offering a
portfolio of transmedia solution, we are a transmedia editor company
that also sees the particularities of every one of these medias
making papper, printing books, making content for web, making content for mobile, making audio content
no doubt a content in mobile I have to present it with different particularities
that I present, for example, a course on the Internet or in a printed material
but we think that, for example, we can have an experience that starts on paper
continue on the web and ends on mobile
or have any other of these paths
in a way the intent is to understand these medias and can develop contents in a right for for each of them
We have a question from the audience that I would like you to answer
Hello, my name is Naiara, I speak from Sao Paulo and would like to know
what is the difference between a smartphone and a tablet?
Martin, you were so engaged on the answer can also answer this one
what is the difference between a smartphone and a tablet?
Well, they are both mobile technologies, I can carry them around where ever I want
one of the main differences is the sizes and the contents that I can work
in a smartphone screen needs to be specific for that media
experience that I have with a smaller display is different from the tablet
from it's side has possibilities of different content
and I can, for example, work with books, think in working with books
as reading a book on the mobile can be a less rich experience for the user
so, basically, the different opportunities requires different content, but allows both the opportunity of being mobile and portable.
Well, then, in this case, size matters!
Do you believe that applications will unite mobile, smartphones, tablets and computers?
We will see more application cross platform doing that union?
Yes, definitely I think this is already happening
I think, certainly, that crossmedia already exists
I think think there is something that I don't have the answer for this question yet
but what we talk a lot and discuss
the "disagreement", the matter that the internet died and the Internet is only one way
this is a very hard thing to discuss, very polemic
many people say that people will navigate through mobile devices
which means, where it is more interesting for them
and they will not research, will not navigate in the Internet
the Internet will be just a way to access the main content through applications
I think this is a matter a little… I think this can happen but I think this is very polemic
Even because Internet is not only connecting people
the Internet is starting to connect things, connecting my house, my company
starting to connect big sensors that are integrated to the web, the search mechanisms are not only searching
but also searching for a specific location
where I am, what is close to me that might interests me
it is a much higher connection, well, in the next part we will talk about business models for applications
and find out the mobile of your dreams, the MobileTalk will be right back
