NASA has released before and after satellite images of the deadly mudslide that hit Washington
state. The rain-triggered landslide which happened earlier this week near Oso sent muddy
debris into numerous homes, killing at least 24 people.
The slide in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains piled mud, boulders and rubble up
to 15 feet deep in some places.
It blocked the flow of river, backing up water behind a natural dam left in the
stream's channel - that caused flooding of seven homes upstream of the slide.
The two images released by NASA show the area before the landslide hit and then the impact
of the landslide debris and the barrier lake it created.
