The final oral presentations for the College Success Class
are one of my favorite parts of the course.
Students find it's a lot of work but in the end
they really appreciate presenting what they've learned,
demonstrating what they've applied,
and sharing with others
the skill sets that have truly benefited them
throughout the semester. They also provide feedback to one another
based on what they hear
as well as goals for the future. This is an example
a Power Point from a student this semester
on chapters one through nine. You can see
she presents her pre-discovery wheel
and her post-discovery wheel. You can see
the drastic improvement in all the areas that we study.
In Chapter one she really found
the concept metacognition two be one
that she grew learning
about. She demonstrated her insights and actions
based on what she learned metacognition.
In Chapter 2 she showed us
one of her favorite tools, the
ABC to do list and the money monitor.
In Chapter three where we discussed memory she
showed as a great visual really all the topics that we talk about
in enhancing the memory process.
in college and the actions
that she was able to use
as well as apply while looking into other resources.
In Chapter four, reading, she
really took to the characteristics of an active reader
and
summarized for us muscle reading which is an
important concept at the course. In Chapter five
she reviewed the notes process and benefited from learning
the steps of observing, recording and reviewing.
She showcased how she uses mind mapping
in her courses. In Chapter six
she talks about the tests that we
study. She really felt that learning
to detach from the test itself
when she's done everything pre
and during that she can possibly do to be beneficial.
In the thinking chapter she liked
the decision-making process that we learned and the example
of a Master student that was presented in the book, She
elaborated on the "I" statements in communication and
her own inventory that she reflected upon in an essay throughout the course.
And finally, in Chapter nine she
looked at her own health and we end the course by saying
one cannot be a successful student without being a healthy student.
Finally, she set goals for herself that she re-evaluated and
shared with the class.
