One of the larger and better-equipped beaches on Santorini is Perivolos beach, a long strand
of volcanic black sand that has a full range of amenities for those of us who want our
comforts.
Perivolos lies on the southeast corner of the island, very close to other popular beaches
such as Perissa and Aghios Georgios. It's reachable by regular bus service from Fira,
the main town of Santorini. The trip will take about twenty minutes. Alternately, you
can rent a 4-wheel bike and keep it your own schedule.
Perivolos beach is one of the largest in the whole Cyclades archipelago, which explains
why it's so popular. As you'll find on other beaches on Santorini, the dark sand doesn't
cling to your wet body. But it does get hotter than ordinary sand.
A few good hotels overlook this spectacular part of the coast, and the beach bars and
restaurants serve anything from espresso to sushi.
