My name is Manuel Suárez.
I'm a leader on the Zenú indigenous council in Gambote, part of Arjona municipality.
We're from the indigenous territory of San Andrés de Sotavento in Córdoba.
We were displaced from there by violence.
We came to the town of Gambote and settled here.
We live a bit better here.
After the 2010-2011 rainy season, we've been in a precarious situation.
We were registered with the National Administrative Department of Statistics as disaster victims.
Yet we haven't received any type of aid since 2011 until now.
In addition, we are demanding that the government, as we are in a high-risk area…
We want to be on a piece of land where we can
practice our customs, traditions, and craftsmanship.
Principally hatmaking, of which we know how to do and make a living from.
So we want the government to be honest and offer
us a piece of land where we can practice our customs.
We live by agriculture.
Sadly, we don't have land to work. Nothing.
The government, at this time, has forgotten us.
