Video starts and continues for the whole duration with background music by Snowflake (Dragonfly)
Dialogue starts: Julia, from Wild About Pembrokeshire adds
commentary to the whole video: >> I think most peoples memories of seaweed
on the beach when they are kids - smelly, green slippery stuff that they fall over and
absolutely hate to touch is so different now and I love seeing peoples faces on the beach
when they realise they can eat it. I think the most rewarding thing about picking your
own food, is not just that its free, but you’re getting something thats pretty pure. I’m
incredibly lucky to live here in such a beautiful part of Wales. Pembrokeshire is particularly
special. I can just walk out of my door, go down the road five or ten minutes and i’m
on the beach where I can pick seaweed. When I go out sea weeding on the beach, you have
to go down at low tide, I would go out and pick kelp which is the furthest away one slightly
further in you get spaghetti seaweed, thong weed, further up you would get gut weed, sea
lettuce, dulse, pepper dulse, a great selection. You can dry them, and they last about two
years dried. If you enjoy cooking then you just substitute it for things. I have put
some in my Christmas puddings, cakes, stews, soups, quiches. This is dulse, my favourite
one. This bowl stays out the whole time. Some people say it tastes like smokey bacon, a
bit bacony. I like eating it weirdly with brazil nuts, don’t ask me how that started.
Because it contains so many vitamins and minerals and proteins and so on and iodine, you can
absorb it through your skin so its really good for you. I also make face packs with
ground up kelp, oatmeal and local honey. But the thing is that I feel that is is incredibly
good for my soul. If I’m on the beach my head is down. I don’t look to see if I can
see any seals, seagulls, chuffs or anything. I’m totally kind of there with the seaweed.
I honestly can’t think on anywhere else I would rather be or anything else to be involved
