Good morning.
Um, I just wanna thank everybody for letting me come
and to tell you a little bit about our organization
and what we're all about.
I don't have a, a PowerPoint,
but- uh, so you just have to listen to me. [laughs]
But, uh, so my name's Heather Korol,
I'm from Reaching E-Quality Employment Services,
and we're an organization that's been around since 1989,
and we're celebrating our 25th anniversary
next, uh, next year, so we're pretty excited.
So, some of you may have heard of us, and some of you may have not.
It's amazing, um, how many people haven't heard of us,
and we've been around for quite some time, so....
So we are an employment agency,
and we specifically work with people
who have a physical disability or a health condition.
And what we mean by that is it could be someone, um,
who has been born with a disability,
it could be someone that acquired a disability, just in life,
and, uh, it could be a disability that you've grown into,
as, as you become, you know, a mature worker, as we like to say.
Uh, so, so we're here to help.
So we really, um, are here to meet people where they're at.
So this could be someone who maybe, um,
has had a stroke, let's say, um, maybe has Crohn's disease,
uh, could be a knee injury, a back injury,
you may have experienced a motor vehicle accident,
something that's occurred in your life that,
as you're looking for employment,
you find that you're having maybe some difficulties, some challenges,
uh, and we're here to help.
So, uh, so REES,
uh, we can help, uh, with everything from resume development, cover letters,
to, uh, job focus,
um, helping you with your references,
uh, and actively looking for work.
You know, getting the idea of what your skills and abilities are,
uh, what your interests are.
Uh, maybe you're wanting to make a complete career change,
maybe you've never worked before.
So we're really here just to, uh, assist you along your way.
Uh, as people come to REES and access services,
uh, it's self-declared for the individual.
So we don't need any medical documentation,
it's, uh, we, we take you at your word
that, that you're needing that assistance.
Uh, REES is voluntary and it's free.
We're a non-profit, so, uh, our funding mostly, for the majority,
comes from the province of Manitoba.
We do have one project that's federally funded,
and, of course, the United Way has been, um,
a huge help with some of our projects.
So, uh, when, when you do call REES,
one of the first things, um, you'll need to do
is to come in for an intake appointment.
And that would to be just to fill out the forms that we have,
uh, make sure you're a good fit for, for our organization,
and then we would probably put you through,
um, a few of our workshops that we offer,
and then you would go to one of our employment counsellors
and you would start your, your job search.
Uh, we offer four, um, four services outside of this.
Uh, we have our deaf and hard-of-hearing services,
uh, through Usha Speer and Sue Tebow,
uh, excellent employment counsellors for that specific area.
We also have, um, [clears throat] our RINT project.
And Jenny Taylor is here – If you look at the back of the room there
she'll give a little wave.
She's our RINT coordinator.
And what, what that is, is it's a work experience
for people who are looking for work.
It's a six-week work experience
where we, um, offer the employer the, the wages
for people to try out a new place.
Maybe they're wanting, uh, interest in, let's say, retail,
restaurant work, whatever it is that you're interested in,
we will assist the employer in paying those wages
for up to six weeks,
uh, for you to have the ability to be trained,
see if you like that area,
it's a perk to the employer as well,
and then, of course, the hope is, afterwards,
that you would, uh, stay on
as a staff or an employee of, of that organization.
Uh, that is a project that's federally funded,
through the Opportunities Fund, so it's an excellent project.
Uh, we have our RHIP project – we're all acronyms at REES.
Uh, the RHIP project is a little bit shorter.
It's a work experience as well. It's a two-week work experience.
And the whole purpose of that one is for you, um,
especially if you're making a career change,
and you're wanting to, uh, you know, try out a different sector,
uh, in the employment field,
and, uh, you're just wanting to do maybe an orientation,
or an assessment to see if it's a fit for you, if you like it.
If it's not, then that's okay as well,
but two weeks sometimes is a great window of time
for you to really see, um, if that's a position
or a field that you would be interested in.
Um, outside of that we have our youth project.
And I know one of the presenters today is Scott Best,
and he actually is a previous consumer of REES.
He went through our youth project.
And when I say youth, youth is 17 to 29,
so it's really- it's a broad spectrum for age,
so it's really into young adult.
So, uh, and what that is, it's a special project
in the sense that it's a classroom setting.
And we're just in the midst of sort of restructuring it,
but it's gonna be a four to five week classroom setting
of about eight to nine youth.
And, uh, it's a project that's federally
and provincially funded, uh, at the moment.
And, uh, yeah, it's Monday to Friday, nine to five.
It's eight, nine youth who get together,
they work on everything from resume development to job search,
uh, to marketing themselves, uh, interviews, uh, q- quite a bit.
So, so just for you to know about that as well.
And it runs, it's gonna be running about six times a year,
so you can definitely, um, give us a call
if that's something you're interested in,
or if you know someone who is interested in that.
Uh, our last project is one that's, uh, new,
and will be coming either October, late November, we're hoping,
but it's, um, it's our REES Co-op project, it's called.
And it's specifically targeting people
who have a physical disability or health condition,
but that are on EIA.
So they're on, they're, uh, Em- Employment Income Assistance recipients.
And, uh, we, uh, we're really excited,
and we haven't had a new project for, like, to REES
probably in the last ten years, for sure.
So we're just waiting for everything to sort of finish up,
as far as the, uh, the proposal and the funding for it,
but we're hoping the latest to be November.
So if, if you are someone who is on EIA,
and who, you know, is looking for work,
um, we would probably be a really good fit for you
as far as this project.
Uh, we're gonna be offering six week-
or, sorry, six-month internships for this project.
That's quite, quite a lengthy internship,
which is excellent for people who are transitioning into employment.
Um, but we will definitely have more about that project
once the funding is, uh, is a go.
But I just wanted to sort of put the buzz out there
that that's a, a new project that will be starting.
So I think that's it for me.
Um, those are sort of our, our main projects.
Uh, you know, uh, we do have a booth next door
in the trade show.
So please pop by and pick up any pamphlets.
Uh, if you have any questions, I'm definitely free.
I'll be here 'til two o'clock today, uh, at our booth,
and then we'll have somebody else there,
but, uh, please feel free to pop by and introduce yourself,
and I'd be happy to answer any questions, so thank you.
[applause]
