I dropped by iPad. Can I fix a cracked ipad screen?
Back up the device before you try to replace the screen. You could do this by syncing it
with iTunes or uploading files to iCloud.
Assume I’ve already backed up what I want to keep.
If you have the high end Apple warranty and got it within the last two years, the screen
replacement will cost you about $50.
I didn’t get the warranty because it jacked up the price of the device.
If you don’t have the warranty, it will cost you about $250 to have the screen replaced
at the Apple store. Then there’s the “change out the gas cap” method, via the stylus.
What is that?
When you keep the stylus and replace the iPad.
What is a cheaper solution? Really cheap.
I already paid an arm and a leg for the iPad. I have nothing left for the iPad’s replacement.
Buy a screen protector. Put it over the cracked screen so you don’t cut yourself and keep
going.
What type of screen protector?
Don’t use a screen protector that relies on a liquid spray, since that will seep through
the crack and ruin the electronics.
Anything cheaper?
You could learn to live with it. Hairline cracks are annoying, and might cause the touch
interface to fade with time, but you can still use the device.
I don’t want to live with it.
You could hire a non-Apple tech to replace the screen. It costs less, but you have less
certainty that they’ll do it right.
Can I do it myself?
With a digitizer touch screen, LCD screen and the right tools, maybe? Do you know how?
It sounds like I could make a lot of money if I could do it.
You also need replacements for the iClips and all other types of “I” things.
I think I’ll get the warranty next time I get an i-whatever.
