Dispelling the Myths: TBI and PTSD.

Assistive Technology Demonstration
iPod Touch – Mike Young
One other device I want to show you is
an iPod Touch.
You might say "That's not assistive technology
my kid has that plugged in their head all day long."
Which is true because I know mine do, too.
But many of the functions that Lisa mentioned earlier
can be here as well.
Lisa, I believe, made reference to also who
uses Outlook – the reminders and the notes there.
I use them a lot, the to do lists, the reminders,
the alarms to go off.
So typically an employee who spends all or the vast
majority of their time working at one station
probably would use Outlook for those reminders,
but I may be an employee who travels a lot.
I work at a lot of different locations.
I can't take my whole darn computer with me.
What am I going to do? I need a portable version.
So with this tool, with the Apple iPod Touch,
I can go into Notes, and please pardon my fat fingers,
I'll try to stay out of the way as much as possible,
I need to add a note.
Whether it might be the boss
said she needs this Tuesday
or if I just need to "Call Tom," I click "done,"
go back to my notes and there's "call Tom" in there with
my "call Tim" that I did earlier and "pick up milk."
So I have my running list. It's like a quick list to
myself when I get one done and say ok,
I called Tom, so I can delete him.
Let's say that things are moving so quickly that
I am not able to always get this out and do a text note.
I can go into my Utilities, go into Voice Memo,
[speaks into iPod:]
"And this is a quick example of a voice memo,
so if someone gives me something kind of rapid fire,
I can capture it quickly."
[replays Voice Memo capture:]
"And this is a quick example of a voice memo,
so if someone gives me something kind of rapid fire
I can capture it."
Forgive my fat fingers.
That's why my kids use those and I don't.
I give mine to the kids and say, "make it do this for me."
And typically a person using this isn't going to be
hunched over a camera and trying
to show someone else either.
But I think you get idea, the capability.
I can do a quick voice note.
I can do quick written notes in there.
It also have a calendar feature
and I can set alarms to go off.
Have you ever used,
if you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch,
you can get alarms in there.
You can have that go off auditorily,
visually, and a vibration.
So if I happen to have hearing loss as well.
A good multi-function type of tool.
