- I can't tell you how much this means.
It's been a long time without hearing,
and it's just--
I'm trying to get used to hearing.
The sounds I have not ever heard for a long time.
- You take a lot of things for granted.
What if I'd never got a chance to hear my mom call my name,
or my dad to say "I love you"?
- I think there's a difference
between going through life and living,
and I think your hearing is a big part of that.
- There's a lot of little sounds.
You don't want to miss those.
They're all around.
We got a lot of people out here.
You know, it's a great opportunity today
to help the future of our country connect to life
and be part of life.
- Starkey Hearing Foundation,
we have a domestic program called Hear Now.
We bring everybody together on these special events
to let people know that the foundation
is giving hearing aids.
both: Bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah.
- Bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah.
- Does that sound good to you?
- Yeah!
- We take our very best hearing aids here,
and we make them exactly the way we should
to get the best fitting, the best aesthetics
to maintain their self-image,
but also the best possible hearing.
- Mario was crossing the street
coming from freshman orientation.
It was in the summer, and two cars were drag racing,
and he didn't hear the tires.
They said he flew from one side of the street to the other.
He was in a coma for six weeks.
When he woke up, he woke up to music.
Mario had hearing aids, but they broke.
We do have insurance, but it doesn't cover everything.
I just stopped looking, and I look at life differently now.
- One of the most amazing things is seeing a charity
that completes it.
So they start something and they give people this gift,
and then they do a follow-up.
It's just beautiful. Just beautifully inspiring.
- I enjoy in that little time that you have with the person.
You feel so close with them once they're out of your chair,
because you had a part of this person being able to hear
their first sound in life.
[high-pitched feedback]
- I can hear you. - Okay.
[laughter]
- You see these big guys, they show up,
and they think it's about them,
but when they leave, they've been given such a gift
that these people have given them.
You can just see it switch.
I love it. [laughs]
- There's always your time. That's the whole thing.
I mean, that's the greatest gift you can give somebody,
'cause you only have so much of it down here.
Time is love.
- Let's make something happen to connect people to life
and let them hear.
