We fold our hands and bow our heads
and thank the' for our daily bread, amen. I was just saying grace
its something we always say at the dinner table, right before we eat
Our family grace. We jus... what's happening, why is this happening, what's going on?
you are new here aren't you. Yeah here's is a rule on set
we don't touch Chuck's food just letting you know don't go. Stay right there.
Just don't go anywhere.
Next time, don't touch food. As a theological term however grace likely means something
completely different
It could be ahh something that regenerates and inspires virtuous impulses
or are something that gives us strength to endure and resist temptation
there are many interpretations
and that's why we're taking a little closer look at grace and what it might
mean to you on this episode
Chuck Knows Church [play that funky intro music Chuck boy]
[spinning... ahhh dizzy!]
some see grace or divine grace
as the bestowing of blessings the free and unmerited favor of God manifested
in the Salvation on sinners or an undeserved mercy that God gave to
humanity by sending His Son
Jesus Christ to die on the cross the deliverance of eternal salvation
[swoosh] oh alright
thank you guys
The new guy has got game. Ah, alright
grace can be defined as the love and mercy given to us by God
because God wants us to have it not because of anything we have done to
earn it. As United Methodists say in our baptismal liturgy
all this is God's gift offered to us
without price. John Wesley the founder of the Methodist movement
described God's grace as three fold prevenient grace
justifying grace and sanctifying grace
Prevenient grace is God
active in our lives prevenient meaning coming ahead of time
prevenient grace is the movement of God's grace
drawing us toward justifying and sanctifying grace.
Now, justifying grace reconciles
pardons and restores us to a relationship
with God. Through the work of God in Christ
our sins are forgiven in our relationship with God is
restored again. This too is a gift
God's grace alone brings us into relationship
with the creator we are only asked to respond in faith.
And sanctifying grace uhh
salvation is not a static one-time event
it's a gracious essence transforming us into the fullness of what God wants
us to be
holy in heart and in life
and when we share in fellowship with other Christians
we deepen our knowledge of and our love for God.
As it is written in Ephesians 2: 8-9
"for by grace you have been saved through faith
and this is not your own doing it is the gift of God
not the result the works so that no one may boast"
if you'd like to know more be sure to ask your pastor
tell them Chuck sent you
and you know what, you can have that sandwich. It looks delicious
I'll just have maybe a bit or two. Maybe..
