Are you familiar with jailbreaking?
Can't you just get an attorney before jumping to that conclusion? There are so many bailbondsmen,
too -
No. I'm frustrated with my iphone 5. Should I jailbreak my iPhone 5?
You have to jailbreak an iPhone if you want to run software not blessed by Apple, though
you can still use the Appstore and make calls.
That's a relief.
Another reason to jailbreak an iphone is so that you that you can use a carrier other
than the one Apple has a contract with. Did you know that smartphone vendors often enter
agreements to only offer their phones through those carriers, and the carrier goes along
because the phone's software won't let you go to another telecom?
I didn't know that. Is there any reason then why I shouldn't jailbreak my phone?
Technically, jailbreaking a phone is a violation of Apple's digital rights. It isn't against
the law unless, due to a quirk in the DCMA, if you bought the phone before January 2013,
but it will void your warranty in every case.
So should I jailbreak my iPhone 5?
If you're willing to risk voiding the warranty, yes. If you bought the phone before January
2013, absolutely. If you just bought it, try Apple support before you try to jailbreak
it.
Apple store employees are a cult. They worship their recently departed Steve Jobs, but they
don't know much in terms of technical support except to sell me a new phone.
If you aren't familiar with jail-breaking, it would be worth your time to talk to a pro
familiar with the software, like at a PC repair place. It is probably illegal to buy tools
to jailbreak a phone, and you could install malware on your phone clicking on links to
download jailbreak software to your phone.
I didn't know that. Can you help? I don't want to pay for help.
I don't do iPhones, mostly just tablets and PCs. But the evad3rs regularly release jailbreak
tools for the iOS.
That sounds like a band name, not a software tool.
It's actually a hacker group that puts out tools to jail break practically every version
of the iPhone. Hackers are weird, but they are useful.
If none of my friends are familiar with this, I'll hit a PC repair place and see if they
can jailbreak the phone. But what do I do if they mess it up?
Go to the Apple store, play dumb, and get the phone re-imaged with its original software.
Then you'll be back where you were before the jailbreak.
Stuck with a phone with all of its limitations.
Better that than a very expensive brick.
