The craftsmanship, the workmanship, the
details is just simply not
possible in today's modern world.
Hello, Qatar TV, and welcome to beautiful Los Angeles.
I'm Christophe Choo.
Today I'm actually in the Los
Feliz area of Los Angeles
because I'm in this amazing home
called the Cedars, and one
of the most famous and historic
homes in the entire city of
LA. This home
has been host to many legendary
Hollywood stars and music royalty.
When Johnny Depp wanted to
do the movie Edward Scissorhands, he wanted
to come and live here to get
in character for the film
because of this amazing home.
Marilyn Monroe's been here.
Errol Flynn.
Bella Lugosi.
I mean you can imagine Bella Lugosi
walking through these historic walls,
but yet today's modern royalty are
now enjoying this historic home
and this amazing space in today's modern world. [xx].
This amazing estate has so many wonderful features.
First of all, you drive into
this very impressive and grand
motor court with two huge, gigantic
Buddhist statues greeting you at
the doorway with a grand facade
of stone columns and a
huge MGM lion at the doorway to greet you,
a wonderful fountain garden in the
front with a beautiful fountain and koi pond.
In the back is a beautiful pool
with additional fountains, there's a couple of
guest houses on the property as well as pavillions.
As you enter into this home, you
walk into an amazing foyer with
soaring 30-foot ceilings, decoupage
ceilings with cherubs all the
way around, and a beautiful
original baccarat chandelier from the 1920s.
The ballroom is flanked by a
colonnade of columns and archways
into the solarium, as well
as three gigantic French doors
off to the fountain on the north side of the property,
intricately designed handpainted wood beamed ceilings,
chandeliers that were reportedly used in the movie Titanic.
[xx]. Sue is such an amazing designer that restored this house.
It took over three years to
recreate this and back to
its original opulent details, including
handmade, hand-beaded sequined draperies
overly beautiful dark red velvet.
Amazing design.
Old tourtieres, wall lights
from the 1920s on the
walls; a grand fireplace, it's
about 12-feet tall, which
is dwarfed by the 28-foot ceilings;
with two gigantic MGM lions
face to face looking at each other on this fireplace.
You literally stand in the living
room by the fireplace and you're shorter than the fireplace.
It's truly unique in this beautiful grand ballroom. [xx].
The Talmadge Room
was probably my favorite bedroom here at the Cedars.
The Italian frescoed ceilings are
so exquisite and opulent, with
the sky, the hand-painted cartouches
of different women, the beautiful
skylight with the lions
flanking either side with a
central line with the light
shining through and the beautiful
rich colors with the lidded glass, and another gigantic
lion from MGM flanking the top of the fireplace.
Can you imagine sleeping in such a spectacular room?
I love the Moroccan Room.
First of all, the decor is stunning.
The colors of the Moroccan style
are rich, vibrant colors which was
reportedly used by Jimi
Hendrix at the time
he wrote his famous song Purple Haze.
And who can imagine what
he must have been doing in that room at that time?
You walk into this dramatic bathroom
with gold gild columns, the original
tiles from the 1920s, a
beautiful inlaid swan stained
glass piece, the gilded bas
relief ceilings and my favorite
part is the dancing gilded muses
as you walk right in the room over the bathtub shower.
It's quite spectacular and quite
unique, and only in LA can you have a Pompeian in bathroom. [xx].
This truly is living
the life of Sunset Boulevard and the Hollywood lifestyle.
Thank you so much, Qatar TV,
for joining me today on this
special tour of the Cedars
here in Los Angeles in Hollywood.
