Hey, check it out. XFX is jumping into
the PSU market place.
And they're doing it with a ***.
Stay tuned because I'm going to tell you
all about this new 850 Watt, black edition PSU from XFX.
Stay tuned.
Alright. So, you're looking at the XFX XPS 850W BER PSU.
I don't know why they give it such a long name,
but that's what it is.
It's a black edition.
It's their first PSU to come to market.
And let me tell you, it's incredible.
I've been reading independent reviews from a bunch of different people
and everyone says the same thing.
Absolutely incredible.
So, let's get right into it. I just want you guys to know,
XFX have obviously been making motherboards,
and video graphics cards.
And they recently got into ATI graphics cards
and now they're doing power supplies.
So they are expanding.
But that doesn't mean they're trying to
produce whatever they can and put their name on it.
This is an extremely high quality product.
It's got some impressive specs.
And even more, the independent tests that I was reading
all through the roof reviews. They're very, very happy.
So, real quick, it's called the XPS 850W BES Black Edition.
So, it's a really weird name.
They could have just called it, the 850 Black.
Or something. Or the... whatever.
Anything except for, eight, nine digits.
I mean, come on. Really?
850 Watt.
It is 80 PLUS Silver Certified. Let's see.
Where does it say that? BAM! Right there.
PLUS Silver and it's not just barely scraping by
it's actually doing a really good job at getting there.
It's going to above 89 percent efficiency
at 50 percent load.
And it's staying very, very close to the high 80s.
As a matter of fact, 86 percent at a fifth load.
And 86 percent at 100 percent load, which is where they test.
They test at fifth, half, and full load.
That's how they test for Silver Certification.
And they passed by a percentage point ahead.
Which is, usually they pass by a smidgen.
These guys are killing it.
Very efficient. Single Rail design.
Seventy amps on that rail,
so it's going to power just about any SLI or Crossfire set up you want.
It is modular. It's not fully modular.
You do have a pretty thick ponytail right here.
And while we're here, might as well show you what you get with it.
So here's your main ponytail.
This is what's not going to be modular, obviously.
And you're going to be getting a 24 Pin motherboard connector,
with a breakaway four to make it a 20.
You have a PCI Express.
This is a six plus two. So it can either be
a six or an eight pin.
OK, I'll move that over.
This is your EPS 12 Volt, 8 Pin, right there.
And, in case you don't have an eight pin motherboard,
you get the four and four, to make two.
So that's a little bit odd, in their selection of
giving you two EPS.
They could have given you one that breaks in half.
But, whatever, still all good.
And then finally, your second PCI E.
Which is a six and breaks up into two.
That means you can run just about any video card,
modern video card, right out of the box,
with two six pins or two eight pins, up to two eight pins,
just with what comes off of this main ponytail.
You'll also notice that all in here,
these are all your modular ports.
Now, this is a single rail design.
So it doesn't really matter where you plug in, what.
It's all getting its power from the same place, from that single rail.
So that's really, really good.
Also, unfortunately you can't see it.
But, if you were to look in here, you would see
that this is loaded with good stuff.
You have solid polymer capacitors in there, they're going to last forever.
You have a DC to DC voltage regulator.
So that's going to regular your voltage before it gets transformed.
You have a lot of incredibly good hardware.
It's very efficient.
It's also got incredible voltage regulation, between one percent.
Around one percent voltage regulation.
So if you hook up to a oscilloscope, it's going to give you
about one percent variation in voltage.
It's going to give you a graph that's going to be like a straight line.
Now, I got some really good benchmarks, or reviews
from jonnyguru.com.
So if you want to check out actual charts
that is where you're going to go as far as that goes.
So voltage regulation is very good on this board.
And of course, efficiency is good because it is Silver Certified.
So that's all very, very good news.
That's the important kind of stuff that you want for gaming rigs.
That's the important stuff you, kind of, want for overclocking set ups.
You want to have clean power making its way.
Now, as far as the modular stuff goes,
you've got quite a bit of modular cables.
And I will go ahead and tell you that, A,
you get a really cool Play Hard, XFX bag
to hold the leftovers that you're not going to use.
And that everything is very nicely sleeved.
And it looks really, really good.
So, you have lots of good stuff.
You have 11 Molex connectors in total.
Some of them are different from others.
Like, here's three in one.
So if you've got three hard drives, you can use this one.
This one, on the other hand, only has two Molex connectors
per PSU mount connector.
So, pretty much, if you only have two hard drives
you can bring out the one that has two.
If you have three or four, you can bring out the ones that have four.
You're going to get 11 in total though.
That's more than enough for most hard drives.
Also on here you have
eight Molex connectors in total.
So here are your Molexes.
This one happens to have three Molex connectors.
But you're going to get eight in total.
Also,
here are your graphics cards.
Let's see, where are your graphics cards.
Too many cables... Oh, here they are!
Oh no, those are the main ones... Here we go!
Graphics cards.
So, PCI Express, again these are six with a breakaway to two.
This is a straight up eight that goes into the back of the PSU.
And on the other end, you have a six plus two
to give you a total of eight.
And if you want to use these, you have two of these extra.
So remember, you have two already over here
and you get two more.
And it's going to let you do Crossfire and SLI with no problem.
And also, while we're here, somewhere in here
is two floppy disc drive cables.
And I don't know... Oh, here they are!
Here we go, the most useless cable ever.
But, it's here in case you want it.
So if you have a floppy array, and you're using some
big floppies, you can definitely do that.
Now, I also want to mention, kind of, the design of this thing is really cool.
135 mm fan.
Very, very quiet 135 mm fan, I might add.
It is ball bearing.
You're barely ever going to hear it.
It is kind of bright looking, with that yellow.
But, it still looks kind of cool and, very, very quiet.
No matter how hot it gets, it's going to stay very, very quiet.
Again, it's not going to go up, even if you heat up the room.
From the reviews I've read, it's just consistently silent.
Very, very quiet.
So, I mean, it's very quiet.
It's got excellent voltage regulation.
It's got awesome efficiency.
Everything is really, really good on this power supply.
You're getting 70 Amps on the 12 Volt rail.
If you want to zoom in over here so you can see what you're getting.
3.3 Volt and 5 Volt voltage regulation is excellent within one percent.
So is the +12, it's just slightly over.
840 Watts on the 12 Volts. 70 Amps.
Basically, all the good video cards right now.
You can do two GTX 285s.
You can do anything you want, it's all going to work on here.
So, I'm very, very pleased to say that XFX
brought a really nice PSU to market.
This is their first time with a new product.
They had a lot of stuff to worry about, marketing and making it work right.
But they didn't just come out with a product that works
or barely works in SLI.
This is an enthusiast grade product.
It's up there with PC Power and Cooling
and with Corsair.
It's definitely top notch stuff.
It's not anywhere in the middle.
This is just really high end stuff.
As far as looks go, some people might not like it.
I think it's pretty cool.
And it is Black Edition, so that's pretty cool.
So I think it's a great product.
