A sound coding strategy is an algorithm which is used to turn a sound
into a sequence of stimulation pulses in a cochlear implant system.
A sound coding strategy allows cochlear implants to initiate delivery of electrical pulses to the brain,
thereby replicating the process of natural hearing.
A number of sound coding strategies have been developed
ranging from conventional strategies such as feature extraction, peak picking
and envelope strategies, to FineHearing® –
the most modern class of coding strategy to date.
FineHearing® provides more sound information via a cochlear implant than ever before possible.
