the pure research center at recently released a report indicating that forty
percent of households with children include a mother that is the primary
breadwinner in that family so this is actually really really big news
especially when you consider
how much that number has increase since nineteen sixty
back in nineteen sixty that number was only eleven percent now obviously there
are many more opportunities for women but out and one dab they factor playing
a role in all of this is the fact that we're seeing less and less couples
getting married we're seeing more and more single mothers and as a result out
the single mothers have to go work and they have to provide for their children
uh... and looked it's uh... unfortunately good news
uh... for a couple of bad reasons
now that the good reasons women are empowered in there in the workforce more
uh... s incredibly positive
the batteries insofar men are signifi using economic power
and
and hence relative to men
women are gaining
so it may be giving you context over the last forty years
our average wage for all americans went up about fifty nine bucks
which is comically little
of course top one percent didn't go over much of a and they went out
astronomically right so that's not an issue men versus women it's an issue of
of the top one percent honestly verse the rest of us because of our
politicians of sat around that so i would have made progress throughout that
time amenable also gone backward yeah so let me let me give you any more context
so that
uh... you know it's just factually during the recession of the field of
work where we saw um... you know people losing their jobs include construction
of course
men overwhelmingly dominate uh... construction and uh... you know the
housing market have led to that disaster in that field of work absolute of course
men are losing their jobs and women are able to maintain their jobs but that's
not to say that women are making more money women are still making those
ridiculous wages stagnant wages uh... and mentor making even less money
because they are losing jobs in that you know we in construction field of work
that they traditionally arkin uh... so it's really you know when people look at
the story and they turn it into like gender wars it's really a reminds me of
hunger games
we're focusing on the middle-class and working-class
battling against one another as opposed to focusing on why the recession happen
in the first place and wire system works the way that it does now to give you
some more information into you on you know the thought process among people
when it comes to this
uh... seventy-nine seventy nine percent of americans reject the notion that
women should have returned to their traditional roles which honestly i found
a little surprising
and i i thought that that number would be lower but i i i am happy that people
are surprised drinkers change
online
there in families where it people need the money and so he asked the guy hey
beating your wife to return to traditional role as are you crazy would
never be able to pay the rent
i get yahoo that's totally right but then i think about middle america and
like this obsession with going back to a traditional nuclear family
c i've always thought that those guys were waiting over a percent in the media
in in rio de janeiro because on the right wing is to workouts
but three people boycott
bike that this is a nineteen fifty-five anymore tea party was a pretty big
movement and you know they have traditional values so it looked even the
tea party guys or have a traditional values that you think they have
instead of all in some will be wanted by billionaires
so it seems like a much bigger movement that it is because all these buses show
up to direct them to the right protesters sat around
so i'm not surprised by that number of axis of pride for the next time
art twenty one percent two asst the track the trend of more mothers
of young children working outside the home is a good thing for society so
uh... you know twenty one percent think it's fine uh... so that's actually a
really low number yeah so people are still say hey listen i get a big i
worked out there
but i don't really like the guy was a rather they stayed home at least with
young children
okay so let's discuss at a little bit uh... of course well you know when a
mother has to go work and provide for a family
it has negative consequences for the kid because you know the mother doesn't have
the time or the resources to focus on the kids' education making sure that
here she is getting the attention that they need to succeed in school or
whatever it is so that's a totally fair point i can totally understand that but
at the same time needed to low income to make ends meet but what are you going to
do yan look a lot of money goes towards the
daycare or the babysitters and so the higher while you're both working yeah so
it
none of this are pleasant options
and as and when i would be in the real problem is that we're not getting the
benefit of the product of biggest product over the last forty years has
increased dramatically in america
the middle class has not gotten a product of any that's why we're in the
spot yes three and four adults said the increasing number of women working for
paint has made it harder for parents to raise children
which like a totally understand
uh... but also keep in mind that the reason why you're seeing this huge
increased is because of single mothers okay because they have no choice they
have to go out there and work
and of course they're gonna be the primary breadwinner because there's no
mad in the household
so forty percent of births now occur out of wedlock
leading to arise a single mother households
and just to give you some numbers up of five point one million or thirty seven
percent are married
eight point six million or sixty-three percent our signal so that's probably
the most amazing
i am can't believe forty percent
of the kids are born wedlock now
and you know
look a made fun of a quell and i will give a medal controversy
but he said with murphy brown had a kid out of wedlock an estimate courage
causes in the pop culture is going first he would do so
and i said look i don't think it's necessarily a bad thing it you know if
people want to do that bless their hearts another hand he's right it is
going to become more more prevalent
and i i remember the time i go you're crazy
but i'm not crazy true that's true now forty percent on whether there is a
great number of reasons the party's lines of murphy brown
but i need to have poor service more symbolic than anything else and you know
people of course or are
are worried that that
obviously women who are single mothers i get paid and and
at a much more raided and have
economic situations are far more dire on average
then married couples
and by the way for mom spent
got to come home and this is over studies that we've shown you on the show
and they still do their share or more of the housework even if they're working
in office
so that they can as our graphic here says they got it
bring home the bacon and how to cook at big s_s_ ought to do all this
and what this really
uh... and interesting trend though and i guess positive for women but also
concerning ferment is that now women
i did uh... masters degrees at a significant high-rate than men do
so
yeah you know
so that means is that the ship has not gotten to the c_e_o_'s et cetera yet but
it will let me know if if the people that are more as given in this country
are women eventually people running the country
will be women
