Gay Christian Answers
Hi, I'm Justin Lee, executive director of
the Gay Christian Network, and you're watching Gay Christian Answers.
This is where you can get answers to your questions about homosexuality, Christianity,
the Bible, *** orientation, gay Christians, coming out,
whatever's on your mind. E-mail your questions to answers@gaychristian.net
Now, right off the
bat the first question on a lot of people's minds is: Gay and
Christian?....DUDE - how's that even possible?
Well, first off, let's define our terms. As Christians,
we believe the same things Christians have believed for 2000 years.
We believe that there is one God, the He created the Universe,
that He loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus,
to die for our sins, we believe that Jesus rose
again, and that we too can have eternal life because He suffered
what we deserved. We believe that the Bible
tells us all about it, that it's God's authoritative, written Word.
Being gay doesn't change any of that!
See, people have all of these assumptions about being gay, they think that if you're gay, that you
have to listen to certain music, you have to wear certain clothes,
you, uh, must be really promiscuous, and you certainly can't be a Christian.
Being gay just means that we're attracted to the same sex.
That's it. And God is not going to kick you out for being attracted to the
same sex. The Bible does not say that. But if that's true,
then why is there so much controversy? The controversy
comes about, because in a few places The Bible does mention instances
of sinful homosexual acts, and many Christians
believe, as a result, that the Bible condemns all homosexual
behavior in all contexts. This is actually
really dividing the church today. Even gay Christians are divided
on this issue. So there are basicially two positions: We'll call them
"Side A" and "Side B". Christians on
Side A believe that the Bible has been mistranslated and
misunderstood on this issue. They believe that where the Bible
appears to condemn homosexuality, actually is condemning other practices like
child abuse, ***, or idolatry, and that if we go back to
the original text and understand the context, we will see that these passages
don't apply to modern, monogamous, loving, committed
Christian, same-sex couples. On the other hand, Christians
on Side B believe the opposite. They believe that those passages
do apply to all gay relationships, including the monogamous
modern ones. What's interesting is that there are
gay Christians on both sides. Obviously, gay Christians
on Side A would feel free to pursue a relationship
On the other hand, gay Christians on Side B are committed
to celibacy, because they believe that that's God's call on their lives.
Now, I'm sure this brings up all kinds of questions for you
about gay Christians, about Side A, Side B, the Bible
and maybe other things that are going on in your life. Questions that you have as a gay
Christian, or questions that you have for gay Christians if you're not one yourself.
So, why not email them? Email us your questions
at answers@gaychristian.net
and we'll talk about them on future episodes of Gay Christian Answers.
