From Turangi to the USA,
Jackson Owens is a young Maori boy
who has landed himself a massive recording contract
with a big-time producer in America.
Te Karere was lucky enough to speak to him
before his new journey to stardom.
Reporter Pere Wihongi caught up with him.
His sweet voice will be hitting the airwaves globally soon.
A big contract to form a boy band in America is waiting for him.
Tim *** spotted this descendant of Ngati Tuwharetoa.
*** is the original producer of the Backstreet Boys,
and has also worked alongside famous artists
such as Justin Timberlake, Jojo and Jesse McCartney.
His father will be with him while he is away in America
for three months before heading back there again for another two years.
All around the world,
it's a common sight to see female groupies
chasing after boy-bands.
And despite his vocal talent,
this descendant of Tuwharetoa has little to say.
His family will be anxiously staying behind at home.
I'm feeling all sorts of emotions
from excitement to sadness because they're both jetting off.
So I'm feeling it all at the moment.
But he has an exciting adventure waiting for him in America.
Tonight, this gifted singer will start hitting the global stage.
Pere Wihongi, Te Karere.
