We decided this issue's topic to be drug addiction treatment,
because from what we see, and know from experience,
the quality of the drug addiction treatment programs
in Skopje and Macedonia are rather weak
and need financing in order to cope with the issue.
That's one of the key factors.
За жал, овдешниот систем за третмани е фокусиран
само на малкуте среќни пациенти кои можат да добијат помош
и не им се посветува доволно внимание на многуте
на кои може да им се помогне, ако е помошта достапна.
The motto for this issue which is on the front page
is from a statement by Dr. Robert Newman,
who says that the patient and the physician have to decide
on the goals of the treatment.
"Nothing for us, without us" is a means to include drug users
in the creation and implication of the treatment programs.
The motive for today's debate is the publishing of this magazine.
Some say we are blocking ourselves to the media,
but we're opening up a new media which we hope will encourage
the bridging of some gaps and the opening up
of new communication possibilities.
How media can influence us to accept or deny drug users,
the prohibition for possession and use of drugs...
To motivate more people from different fields to be interested
in drug issues and to work from their own perspective.
That will create more opportunities for discussion,
which won't be one-sided, but seen from different perspectives.
What everyone is expecting is the second issue,
which will probably be out in 3-4 months.
We'll continue to delve into the drug use issue
and how to create humane policies in our country
using the experience from other countries in the region
and to include new authors such as drug users themselves,
as well as professionals that will write for this magazine.
