Autism spectrum disorder is a neurological condition that disrupts early developmental
processes. It impairs social interaction and communication. And can have an immense impact
on those with the condition and their families.
With the Toby PlayPad, Professor Svetha Venkatesh and her team, are working towards minimising
the significant impact of autism.
Early intervention is vital. However there are growing waiting lists for this critical
therapy. Support tools used today are largely manual. While automated support tools on offer
are limited.
The Toby PlayPad is a downloadable application for the iPad. Aimed at overcoming many of
the obstacles currently faced by families affected by ASD.
It will be more cost effective and easily available to families, particularly those
on waiting lists for other support services.
The Toby PlayPad incorporates user generated content. Making programs highly personalised
to better suit the individual child.
The Toby PlayPad will be an easily accessible, easy to use, low cost software. With major
impact on the lives of children with autism and their families. We're also very excited
by the potential for changing the landscape of early learning in general, with the methods
that we have learnt through this project.
