Hello everyone
Welcome to Tuesday report. So when is your last time of doing exercise?
Are you having the same answer of the previous interview? Or you exercise regularly?
We all know that Hong Kong is a prosperous city so we do not have enough time to do other things like exercise
But there is a recent research revealing the relationship between exercise and happiness.
The experts find that doing exercise may bring us a better mood.
So
do you think doing exercise brings you a better mood? YES! Why?
because it can relieve my stress oh,thank you.
Hello, sir do you feel doing exercise bring you a better mood?
Yea,sure,definitely.
So why do you think about it?
I think I feel more happy
less stress
Yea,I am keeping fit. Very well
Nearly everyone knows about that exercise bring us benefits, physically.
According to C. Simmons of HealthAssist.net
if we do exercise regularly, we will have better cardiovascular health
and it helps to strengthen our muscles and control our weight
Moreover, exercises bring about cholesterol lowering effect.
The most important is that exercise is a powerful antidepressant.
So, does exercise really play a role in a person's mood?
The link between exercise and mood is pretty strong.
I believed all of us should have heard about endorphins.
It is one of the chemicals that produces mood-enhancement effect.
That's why we may treat exercise as one of the way to cure depression.
In order to see whether there is a positive relationship between exercise and a person's mood
During this experiment
10 people will do different kinds of exercises
in the consecutive 7 days They will do at least 30 minutes exercise
in order to meet the suggestion of the Hong Kong government.
After 7 days, all of them need to fill in a questionnaire
which is the Brief Mood Introspection Scale
The BMIS scale is a freeware mood scale consisting of 16 mood-adjectives
to which a person responds (e.g., Are you "happy"?)
The scale can yield measures of overall pleasant- unpleasant mood
arousal-calm mood, and it also can be scored
according to positive-tired and negative-calm mood
We will focus on the pleasant-unpleasant mood
interviewees need to circle the faces
beside the mood-adjective according to their feeling after exercise.
For the positive adjectives, such as
Active, Calm, Caring, Content, Happy, Lively,
Loving, and Peppy ☹ ☹ will count as 1
☹ will count as 2
☺will count as 3
and ☺☺will count as 4
While for the negative adjectives
such as Drowsy, Fed up, Gloomy
Grouchy, Jittery, Nervous, Sad, and Tired ☹ ☹ will count as 4
☹ will count as 3,☺will count as 2
and ☺☺will count as 1
The total score was obtained by subtracting the unpleasant total
from the pleasant total and the effective range of the BMIS
pleasant unpleasant scale scored through subtraction
is -24 to 24.
The higher marks you score, the better mood you have and vice versa.
☹ ☹ mean definitely do not feel
☹ means do not feel
☺means slightly feel
☺☺mean definitely feel
The total score was obtained by subtracting
the unpleasant total from the pleasant total
and the effective range of the BMIS pleasant unpleasant scale
scored through subtraction is -24 to 24.
The higher marks you score, the better mood you have
and vice versa.
And the result we get from the 10 interviewees is
23 , 21 , 18 , 21
19, 21 ,19 , 20, 18 and 22.
All 10 interviewees score a pretty high mark
after exercise It reflects that they all have a good mood
after doing exercise
Scientists have touted the positive relationship between exercise and mood for decades.
Exercise appears to influence mood in several ways
mostly by the release of chemicals, called neurotransmitters
Physical activity produces a positive effect on
the levels of the four key brain chemicals that impact mood
epinephrine, serotonin, dopamine, and the endorphins.
Endorphins is the body's natural *** painkillers
reduce physical and mental pain and produce a form of euphoria.
It is released by the pituitary gland in response to pain or stress
associated with exercise with exercise and it will spill into the brain
within 30 minutes of the initiation of physical activity, and this influx increases with the frequency of exercise.
After watching today's documentary
I think all of you will learn about the advantages of doing exercise
and the fact that exercises bring us happy mood.
So you may jog after dinner tonight
or even hike with family in the weekends to enhance the happiness effect.
Bye-bye.
