(narrator) When deadly tornados cut a path through Oklahoma and
Missouri in the spring of 2011, 10-year-old Hadley Davis
felt for the survivors.
(Hadley Davis) Whenever I look at the pictures,
it's mind-blowing because if you put yourself in their place and
what they're going through.
Some of them have lost their house.
Some of them have lost their family members.
It just crushes your heart and I wanted to give back to them so
they would have enough money to fix up the place.
(narrator) Hadley knew the victims would need more than
just the contents of her piggy bank to get back on their feet.

She needed to come up with a plan that would raise enough
money to make a real difference.
(Heather Davis) We're the Davises and
we're Hadley's parents.
If somebody says "We need this done," her philosophy is then,
"Why can't we do it?"
(Heather) Those are cute.
(Hadley) Thanks.
(narrator) Hadley started a small jewelry company, selling
the designs at her church, Oak Park United Methodist,
in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

(women 2) I sure am. Are you?
(women 1) Well I might just have to do that.

(women 1) This goes to mission?
(women 2) Yes.
(Heather Davis) We started out with just earrings and in that
first go around we raised $400.
(narrator) Hadley gave all of the proceeds to the United
Methodist Committee on Relief, through The Advance knowing the
money would go directly to those affected by the storms.
(Hadley Davis) My customers get excited because it's a mission
project and they know it's going for a good cause.
And the reason I think I am an effective fund raiser is because
no one can say no to a little kid.
(woman) Do you do anything?
(Briley Davis) You don't have to be an adult to change the world.
You can be any age to change the world me and my sister
do that almost every day.
(Hadley Davis) If you want to get involved you can.
You don't have to make jewelry.
Let's say your talent is like good with animals and you would
really probably want to do something with animals
like maybe pet sit.
It really doesn't matter what age you are 10... 34.
(David Stewart) When I first came as the pastor I recognized
it was not going to be my job to inspire them to reach out.
My job was going to be to keep up.
(Hadley) Hundred, eighty...
(Heather) A hundred eighty plus twenty.
(narrator) Hadley's enthusiasm and efforts continue.
By giving money through The Advance, Hadley helps UMCOR
stay prepared to respond to the next natural disaster
anywhere in the world.

(Heather Davis) The big life lesson I want my kids to know
about God's work is that he's going to put something in front
of us and we need to respond to that need for our neighbors you
know the next state over or the next country over and The
Advance allows us to do that.
(Hadley Davis) Think of how much better our world would be if
everybody just pitched in and helped just a little bit.
(David Stewert) And it is an inspiration for me
as the pastor and for the congregation to see
her leadership and again, hope we can follow.
