david packard shelf and david packard dot com welcome back to the show make
your check out the to inform to vote republican face book page as well as the
we survive push your survival bomber face book page and don't forget the i
love it when i wake up in the morning and brocco bombing is president face
book page glad to have
our live stream people from all three of those face book
pages we've been talking about sis by often are we haven't talked about it for
a little while
and now it is back this is the cyber intelligence sharing and protection act
it passed the house of representatives
we will now see what happens in the senate there is an interesting
uh... amendment
there was a last minute alteration
to cisco which would have prevented had it passed
employers from demanding that
prospective employees disclose their social media passwords as a condition of
employment this was voted down in the house of representatives so again
it was proposed to prevent employers from asking that that did not happen
meaning that if sista as it passed the house
indeed comes along
employers could ask prospective employees for their face book passer tap
that doesn't mean that anybody would have to give their face the password and
you could obviously to say you know if that's that's the case i don't wanna
work here
the reality though is that
we can't depend on that and say i hope cares about it the fact that it can be
made a condition of employment
is very problematic their this isn't this is completely crazy i would say we
need to see all of your mail that you've got the same thing because it's the
exact same thing rap salute lee
and the proposal was put forward by democratic
uh... representative ed pearl moderate was defeated two twenty four two one two
eighty nine
and the other thing is that it could also be made a condition of keeping a
job so fine you can say well listen
all right now i was asked that to start working at this place i didn't want to
do that i bailed out i said i'm not no longer interested
within three working somewhere ten years and all of a sudden the employer says we
are now going to ask for face book passwords
for everybody who wants to continue working here and we'll be doing an
analysis or we don't even tell you what we're going to be doing with the
password
but you're not required to give your password
this is why
for example days gonna have to face book accounts one that's david pack when it
has no friends and no one ever comments on it and that's the one whose passport
he gives to the employer that's for and annie have another one that's like kevin
castell blame
there has to real friends and regulars will never find out about this is this
is one of the most common retort people are saying listen set up another face
book page and give your employer that but the reality stand that as a
pragmatic solution you can do that but this is not something that should be a
lot think we all agree more snow
novices completely insane
and um... we we need to find out also
what uh... what is the india so for example face book initially came out and
supported sis pa
their name is now gone from the list of companies that support sista
and there are other company they're very large companies that that still
supported and we need to be aware of this yesterday read it had a lot of some
bread it's blacked out in protest of sista
and this is a concern and again for people saying well why would your
employer ever actually do that
that's not the issue the issue is whether you have a reasonable
expectation of privacy
for the private the non public aspects of your social media presence i cant
understand
i don't see any compelling argument for why this is different
then saying we're gonna look through that your your snail mail for that for
the last six months it's a it's a complete breach of privacy and uh... i
you know
even if this passes if employer actually asks for this you better think twice
about wanting to work for that person because justin employer asking for this
is is a
terrible side by agree but depending on people to just say no and get fired is
not acceptable brett
