>>>DAVE KOPEL: Well, ever since 1992, when I joined the Independence Institute two decades
ago almost, I have had the only full-time job that of think-tank in the United States,
anywhere in the world, or as far as I know, anywhere in the solar system, that is focused
mainly on protecting the right to keep and bear arms.
And so I do all the things that think-tanks are for, would force the support of the rest
of the Independence staff and other scholars. I write lots and lots of law journal articles,
I have published over 80 articles in scholarly journals over the years, I am currently working
on my 14th book, and I have written many, many iPads and articles, and for places such
as the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and so on.
We try to communicate with the public on all kinds of levels, these days through things
like Facebook, Podcasts, Twitter, websites… So, I guess the Independence Institute has
been sort of a full service operation for what I do. Of course, the Independence Institute
has lots of issues in addition to the second amendment but the focus on my own output has
been on things that are very high into the scholarly level, the things in law journals
from say Michigan or Yale, and also things that are meant for a very broad audience,
that ideas aren’t just for one type of people and that everybody can participate in the
constitutional dialogue that goes on in our country.
