My name is Beatriz Guevara and I'm a librarian at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library
and Independence Regional Library Branch in Charlotte, North Carolina. [What does winning the 2012 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award mean to you?]
To me, winning the award means that libraries are still important
involvement in our community.
It means that users still seek information and guidance and knowledge
from the library,
and
it really just validates the fact that I became a librarian because I
wanted to become a librarian since I was very young,
and I think, for me it was obviously the right choice, but I think winning
the award means
that other people
think so, as well. And it really just inspires me to work better and harder
for everyone in our community
and to provide the same level of service and also to continue to inspire
other people, especially young people, and especially Latino youth and other
minority populations.
I just want to let them know that
sometimes you do have to work harder, but it also means that it's worth
double
at the end and just keep doing it. And the library will always be there to
support you and help you in any way. So thank you so much. This is such an honor.
