I am Mamzelle Mamath, I am a graphic designer, illustrator.
What really made a strong impression on me was Art Deco and Art Nouveau, these really are my references,
I don't know how to explain, it appeals to me, it's both abstract and very well balanced,
I think graphically there has been nothing better up to now.
Actually, having a closer look at the piece, I started to focus on all the details
and all the clues put together such as the Maya calendar with the 21st of December,
the zombie survival guide, the picture of Mel Gibson in Mad max, the Planet of the Apes ...
so the end of the world...Wow!
Frankly, it wasn't super fun, super playful to work with...
So I started with these two books I found at a flea market, so pretty old stuff.
You can spend hours finding everything and nothing, the inspiration or not, testing things...
Actually, the *** was a reference to the character with the hood,
so the *** with her cape and the hood on... I like the parallel.
The baby Jesus instead of the doll a bit burned, whose missing an arm and
a leg I believe hanging by the window.
I am not a believer but I like the religious icons,
the underlining messages they carry I think are fantastic.
Rather than working specifically on the end of the world itself, I preferred to work on the prophecy,
so it's a prophecy it's more vague,
rather than pointing straight on the 21st of December: what's gonna happen? We have no clue...
Finally, there are so many ways the world could end almost every day,
it's surprising it hasn't happened yet!
Trying to assemble a lot of tiny details like this,
and added up to the general theme, it will be referencing the original piece.
At that point, I started to add lightning,
trying to put the clock back, the waves, why not a tsunami as well I don't know...
There is also the thing with the sun calendar, the passage of time,
and this date: the 21st of December...
The idea of having many wings comes from a visit of Fourvieres, in Lyon
where there were characters like that, with one head and two pairs of wings and I found it beautiful.
Random things like this are influencing me somehow, at some point it comes up in my mind and I wonder "where does that come from?"
Actually, on a daily basis everything feeds you, unconsciously,
for better or for worst I don't know... It´s rather for better I think...
