CORFU 2012
KAPARELI ISLAND
Dark clouds over Kapareli.....
Kapareli is an island of historical Importance in northern Corfu.
Its lighthouse was built in 1828 and was a beacon to all passing ships .
The island forms part of the wider ecosystem of Erimitis which is surrounded by unspoiled
beaches, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with forestry lands extending over hundreds
of acres, serving as the habitat for over 220 different species of birds.
The three lakes of the area are the home of otters as well as turtles, while during the
immigration period birds such as herons use them as a place of rest.
The tempest begins
The locals are in up row because of the imminent installation of the fish farm at Kapareli,
by a company already active in the fish farming field.
The signal has been given PAME (CHARGE)
As local community WE RESIST...!!!!
And we say NO!!!
To the environmental destruction, and the downgrading in the travel industry
Of our area.
Because we expect clean beaches, for us, our children and our visitors.
Because we want to taste the delicious fish caught by our fishermen.
NO!!!
Against the odds, starring into the future. Not everything is for sale !!!!!!!
WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE OR ANYTHING TO RUIN KAPARELI, ERIMITIS ,OUR LAKES AND OUR BEACHES.........!!!!!!!
