How to Cook Pasta
I'm here in the kitchen at Colorado State University and today I'm going to show you
how to cook pasta. So now that our water is boiling, we have a large pot of boiling water
here, I'm going to add a little bit of salt. You don't have to, um, some people say it
add flavoring, but I'm just going to add a little less than a teaspoon here and then
we're going to take our pasta and I'm using whole grain spaghetti and it says it
cooks in about 7 to 8 minutes. And then as the pasta starts to soften, it'll be easier
to get it all in the pot. And we're going to let it cook, um, for about 7 to 8 minutes
like the box says and just stir it occasionally. Make sure that it's not sticking together
or clumping. So the pasta has been cooking for about 7 minutes, and to test to see if
it's done, I'm just going to take some tongs and pull out a little bit here, and
let it cool so I don't burn my fingers and. . . yup, so it has, it's soft on the outside
but it has a little bit of a bite on the inside. It's slightly firm but definitely not crunchy.
So now I'm going to bring it over to the colander and drain it in the sink. So, I drained
off the water from my pasta and now you can just serve it onto the plate and as you can
see, it's nice and cooked. There you go. And, you can serve it with sauce, pesto, a
little drizzle of olive oil, whatever you'd like. And, it's as simple as that.
