Okay
so, there were ... how many did we have in the end?
7 awards.
Best teamwork, this is one that I transplanted
for insomniac's award from last year. Thought best teamwork would probably be better than encouraging lack of sleep.
oh my god you guys, there were no tears, there were no fights, there were no changes of teams,
there was no-one taking their bat and ball ... [ someone yells 'boring' from behind ] I know, it really was wasn't it?
but that's very cool
... that's very cool. Anyone have any good juicy fights I missed, I want the gossip later.
so ... it became very tricky, but there was one ... we'll use the term team.
um, that, worked on this amazing level and I don't even know who they all are because it was kind of a composite,
... of teams. So we've called it the Harry Lee team for the moment [ laughs from audience ]
... so if the Harry Lee team would like to come, take a bow for being such a great team ...
... that's all, your whole 15 of you.
[ clapping ]
[ mumbled talking between everyone ]
>> GISELLE: okay
um, okay, best sound, this was tricky primary because a lot of us ...
... it was very noisy, it was very crowded, it was very hot.
And this was possibly the most debated of all of them,
aw, well there were two, this, yeah, so it did take a little while
but anyway, without further ado, best sound went to ...
... 'Burn'.
[ celebrating ]
so if team Burn would like to come out now, since we name all of your teams ... [ not understandable ]
Now with my beautiful helpers; where, where are they? Oh well, oh wait there's another one.
There we go, one Ben and one for Jarrod; yeah and we'll work out stuff like that and keep an eye out ...
for, oh here he comes. >> TEAM: good job, buddy
>> GISELLE: and, who did, who actually did the sound? >> TEAM: this guy, this guy right here.
>> GISELLE: you know own the sound library as soon as I locate, I'll be looking for James ...
[ celebrating ]
>> JAMES: it's in the ... room [ clapping ]
>> GISELLE: so very nice and thanks very much to Stephan Schultz's support as well.
Best art. There were some fantastic art this year, it was really really impressive.
and a big leap forward from last year as well a lot of the time.
but, it's really hard to resist a woman who is prepared to come in and sit amongst all of those computers
with pastels and her pens and make the most beautiful fishes and whirlpools
Um, so the best art goes to ...
... 'Whirlstrom'.
[ celebrating ]
That has been lovely, I think everyone else agrees with me and it's been really nice having not everything digital, always.
So congradulations 'Whirlstrom'.
Alright.
Most surprising, this was actually the hardest one to decide.
Um, and you also get a wonderful prize from Surprise Attack a half day marketing and branding workshop
which is great thing for any indie.
Um, there were a few that were really, as I said this was the most hotly debated one.
Um, and in the end, I'm not even sure if I've got the name right, because we've had a few name iterations
so congratulations for most surprising we have ... 'Sci-Flies', 'May Flies' ... something like that.
[ clapping and celebrations ]
And one for Aaron; my little helpers.
Okay
Now one ... let's go over here ... that's better.
Most Fun, as long as I'm running a game jam that's going up there as one
of the most important things and it was something that actually a lot of us were struggling with a bit.
Um, not say they weren't impressive and fun games, but it's like where is that thing
where is that snap, what is it?
It's not always the brightest and the shiniest, it's that addictive one that you can't put down.
And this was ... fairly unanimous, there were certainly other ones up there, but congratulations ...
'Streams'. You impressed many many people. [ clapping and celebrations ]
[ mumbled talking between everyone ]
Good work; congradulations; thank you, don't spill my drink or I won't love you any more.
Okay, it's now between the taster's choice and the jammer's choice.
Much like last year, although we all had really fairly solid ideas of what we like in games,
and we seem to have fairly agreeable ideas, so, I'm going to wrap it all into one because
Taster's Choice and Jammer's Choice is the same game.
Congradulations, for the very impressive, winner ...
.. okay I've got to build it up because I didn't build up the reveal, right?
[ laughter from audience ]
The winner of Melbourne Global Game Jam 2012 is ...
'Omelette Boris'.
[ intense celebrations and clapping from audience ]
Oh oh, and I do have your main prize. You can fight it out all of you, how many is there? 5.
That's going to work pretty well. Thank you, this was an additional thing from Immersive Technologies.
I think John-Paul's disappeared.
But, it works ... there he is ... thank you to Immersive Technologies [ not understandable ] ...
A $500 JB voucher.
[ celebrations ]
So thank you very much for everyone, I just want to do last thanks to everyone who's made this possible.
Um, La Trobe Uni for having us here; their security get's confused every year,
their rubbishmen are going to hate us tomorrow.
But it's been really great, it's a really nice space to be doing this.
Immersive Technologies, AIE and Microsoft as our primary gold sponsors, without them
it wouldn't have happened, there certainly wouldn't be as much food and cute cups, and /massages/ too!
you guys are spoilt.
Um, prize sponsors, Storm FX; I'm going to forget someone I know it, Surprise Attack, EA Australia,
>> AUDIENCE: sound library? >> GISELLE: Sound Library!
Do I have any more?
[ laughs ] Yeah, I know, I've got it all on this somewhere, I'm trying to use my brain, it happens sometimes.
And indie sponsors, Voxel Agents, League of Geeks and Tin Man Games.
We didn't get through all of Tin Man's coffee at all. [ clapping ]
We're going to have an additional bar sponsor of Big Ant Studios, who's going to kick the money I owe somebody still for this thing
onto the bar, so yay, thanks Big Ant. [ clapping ]
and all of the committee people who made it happen, Fee, Matt Lacey, the people who did stay up so I could get a little bit of sleep
at the barbecue, look you've all been ace, it's been grouse, I hope you all sleep really well
but this'll be an experience that you remember fondly for a very long time.
>> AUDIENCE: and Giselle! [ clapping from audience ]
>> GISELLE: everybody else who hasn't won a prize, you still get a coffee cup
so, yeah, when, you know, we can queue for sausages and cups now.
And my beautiful QA's and their family for putting up with me.
[ clapping and celebrations from audience ]
So thank you very much, have a good night, there's drinks on the bar, there's sausages on the BBQ
I'll work on the vegeburgers shortly, and it's all good!
