What is the school cloud?
A place to play
It's a big cloud that has tiny colored clouds.
A big place, where there are activities...
It's a big cloud
Games for the kids...
...Really really big,
A place to talk, with videoconferences for the grown-ups
...and it has tiny clouds!
...And it has games
It is a cloud that is both in the computer and in the sky
...and it has dolls
...and there are a lot of things, many things.
...let me talk!
...no, no...ours is blue!
It's a web so the kids can have fun in the school.
The feeling among the small rural schools that form a CRA (school rural network)
as they are located in different villages
was to have a common playground, a playground where we all play,
where we all have fun and we all learn. A common playground.
It ended up being a collaborative site for the whole group of teachers.
...so, in the notice board, which is a very dynamic, fast tool, every minute, every day...
Anything that happens unexpectly in any of our schools
...it appears in the school cloud and everybody is aware.
What is the school cloud for?
To send messages to our mates
...You can play...
We create fairy tales, write to our schoolmates... We look at pictures...
...pictures from Magosto, Carnivals, prehistory...
Making jigsaw puzzles,
...and we play Maths... ...I was going to say that!
...music, fairy tales, jigsaw puzzles...
I can draw...a rocket, a tree, a flower...maybe...
...then, "the cloud" as a technological tool allows us to communicate, not only among children,
so they can feel they are virtual classmates with those from other schools,
...but also for all teachers.
It really simplified the coordination in the rural school network
Before, we had to go to the main school for some procedures, mainly related with field trips...
Now we can do all that without having to leave our school.
Being able to have (resources) centralized in a web portal that we can access from schools or from home,
so we can prepare such work...The same as our students can access it from home...That really simplifies our work.
From where do we access the school cloud?
Well, I access it from home, usually. Me, I access from my cousin's home, as I don't have Internet
I access it from the library. -I use it sometimes...
...from Ribadavia's library
As it is a cloud, we can access from virtually anywhere, work from our homes,
If you have an Internet connection, you have the school cloud available
and once you access it, you can do there almost anything.
Parents consider it very interesting
because they have a closed area where kids can access safely, with security.
Because those resources accessed by children have been chosen by their teachers.
What has it meant to use the cloud in the school?
As a member of the assistant heads of the school, I see it as a huge revolution
It eased internal communication among teachers, sending messages, retrieving documents...
Before, we used to carry usb sticks around, gathering documents from each school. Now it's all so much faster.
In that sense, I think it's now working great, and it was a great revolution to the school.
Families also access our stuff, and even what it's more important, that it is a safe place.
Before, we used to work with blogs, but now we feel better because we know that what they will find will be suitable for them
The school cloud is already part of our school daily life. First thing in the morning, we log into our cloud,
because we have a lot of daily activities we us already available there
For teachers, it was a huge change of teaching methodology
as we were used to take everything in usb memories around,
...or every teacher to work the best possible way, but independently from the rest in each school
But that was restricted to the school they were working in.
Knowing that when you arrived at a school, all learning resources were already there, that was...great.
Experiences 2012- 2013 School year
Macro-multiconferences among 23 rural schools
(Teacher reading aloud and sharing through videoconference a fairy tale with voice and images)
(Schools actively participate by sharing audio and video with the rest of the schools)
A Famous Galician writer, José Neira Vilas, gets on our school cloud to be interviewed by the kids from the schools.
(Teacher talking): It's a huge pleasure to be able to haveMr. José Neira Vila with us today...
Bye bye from the cloud!
We'll see each other in the cloud! We'll see each other in the cloud!
