So how soon would you have to choose your major?
Well that depends very much on the individual. So if you came with a very clear idea of what
you wanted to do, we would start you off on that major straight away but we’d also encourage
you to explore other things, so other subjects that you’re interested in. So it might be
that in the first two years you’d have built up all your pre-requisites for your major
in your final year. On the other hand you might find that you went and studied what
we call a breadth module and that you found let’s say a breadth module in English although
you came from a science background and that you found that you really enjoy that and you
prefer to do your major in that. In that case we’d be looking for your year abroad really
to try and build up your pre-requisites for your final year.
It gives you the freedom then to see what suits you and what you want to do.
That’s right.
And the student’s very much in control.
And that then allows us to handle the year abroad in different ways. So it might be the
case for example that you had all your pre-requisites for your final year sorted by the end of year
two. In that case we can look at a mixture of the year abroad where you might do a part
internship, then you’ll do additional modules at a partner university. So there are different
ways we can handle this because we’ve got a lot of flexibility because it’s a four
year degree.
Brilliant.
