bjbjm A lot of it has to do with history. Not that people say "Oh Denver has a cool
disability rights history, I think I'll move there". It's historically this city, we had
an activist community that made things happen pretty early on. The buses have been accessible
for a long time thanks to the efforts of Wade Blanked and a bunch of other people who organized
around that issue, and also say around tenant services. There has been a lot of good organizing,
both early on and to get those kind of services funded and also more recently to keep those
services from being cut. we've had a strong state cross-disability coalition that is very
active at the legislature in making sure that people with disabilities get our voices heard
and I think that activism is the main reason you know there are some physical advantages
too. It's a relatively new city so building should be built without steps and other barriers
and its reasonably flat, compared to places like San Francisco. I've traveled around the
country a lot and there's disability activists and energy around a lot of places so it really
is everywhere and it has a different gender and a different face everywhere. It's really
a multiple story movement. urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags City urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags
