Hi there, I'm Acam Varnum
I want to show you how you can upgrade
the Edge 540 QQ
if you have time and want to.
First of all I mounted struts
made of cfk-rods
this gives enough
stability
to the rudder/elevator-connection
I found it a little bit on the rickety side.
this is not a must but I found it works good for me.
Second thing is
I cutted slots into here
simply using
a metal saw
that went pretty good
cut it from both sides
otherwise
it'll rip out to the bottom,
so finally cut it after that.
But whom do I tell..;)
I sticked right into the middle of the rudder little cfk-rods in this direction
they are 2 inch long
roundabout
That means seen from above
they are going from here to there
they are in the middle of the surface
you can't see them but it gives good stability
steering the elevator this surface now goes up and down
this increases the
elevator-effect
you have to do
some extra
hinges here
with a good sticky tape
.....
really works good
Third thing:
Landing Gear
i made a 2mm triangled
cfk sheet
that fits in the slot
and glued two
2mm cfk-rods with epoxy
onto it
sticked that in the slot and connected it to the landing gear
simply with superglue and
filament
that won't break
if you land on grassy places it may happen
that the landing gear bows away
what happens?
it hits the fuselage and leaves an ugly hole
which I could fix semi-properly
but that does not have to be and so it won't happen again.
the whole thing weighs about 1,1 Gramms, so I don't mind.
The last thing to do better I thought
is the battery compartment. I was not so happy with it
because you don't have the opportunity to change CG to much
or if you use bigger batterys
like me using 800mAh lipos
just about 20 Gramm more weight then the original ones
if its a bit windy you will hardly notice that
and it even works well otherwise.
to get them tight in any position I glued
under both sides of this lip thin pieces of rubber foam
roundabout I think like
8-9mm wide and about
one inch long as you can see
on both sides...
made a little mark here, makes it easier later
then I made
a little stick out of a 3mm x 0,5mm cfk profile
rounded the edges, so it won't damage the foam
little piece of tape here
matches exactly into here
can put the battery underneath here..
and the stick..
..under it is nuff place..
pushes down the battery.
to enhance that
I made different types of little foam pieces
that you put between battery and that stick..
depending of what size your battery is. I have different ones going
from 450mAh over 500mAh up to 800mAh
had to do one different piece for the 800's
matches the same way
I'll just put it inside here
and so it will secure the battery.
So you can slide it all the way back and the CG will be alright
the 800mAh batt.is a little heavier and because
he is in front of the CG it has to be put more to the back
So these are the improvements I thought I should do
that are easy to build
Who thinks he needs it
does it, who doesn't
can be happy
or not, haha...c ya!
