Panic attack is an exagerrated anxiety which at the same time has responses so the body
reacts in this emotional state of anxiety and the people who experienced panic attacks
might feel that they have heart attack or that they might die or that they might have
a stroke. So the physical symptom of the panic attack is intense. Most of the time it has
nothing to do with physical reasons, it's just the body reacting to increased levels
of anxiety. What we're trying to do with people with panic attacks is first of all to normalise
the physical symptoms that they have because this maintains the attack and its intensity,
so being more familiar with what is happening in their body and why the body responds in
that way. We talk about the adrenaline and how the blood circulates in the body, faster
than it should so the people are not really afraid of what's happening in their body and
they're more familiar with this process. It involves a lot of relaxation and understanding
of the physical reaction so with the relaxation techniques people first of all they get more
relaxed and mentally they become more receptive to understand any new ideas that we introduce.
