"Hi. My name is Alysia Melnick. I'm the Public Policy Counsel for the Maine Civil Liberties
Union, The Maine Branch of the ACLU. I'm here in Washington DC today, came in with a whole
bunch of my friends and colleagues from Maine. 12 hours on the bus. I'm here today to make
sure that my story and others like mine are heard. My grandmother, who is 97, had an abortion
before when it was illegal and extremely dangerous for her to do so, but she did it because she
believed that it was the right thing for her and her family. She was able to make that
choice and raise my aunt and my mom with the sorts of resources that she wanted to provide
her children. It's really sad to me that we are still having this debate today. I was
first here when I was in high school, almost twenty years ago, to fight for choice rights
for women. And I'm here today again to have my voice heard again and hopefully, if you
can't be here today, please contact your legislatures. Contact your Senators. Contact your Representatives.

any attempts to include additional abortion restrictions, like the Stupak-Pitts Amendment
that was adopted by the House, in the Senate healthcare reform bill.
