At Marshall, we have a
couple of different
roles. We have a couple
of instruments, actually
three instruments that
are involved in GRIP.
Those instruments will
be measuring aspects
of lightning and
electrical characteristics
of the storms from the
Global Hawk. Thats the
Lightning Instrument
Package, LIP. We will
have an instrument that
will measure the Oceans
surface winds in the
storms. That is something
called the HIRAD,
Hurricane Imaging Radiometer.
And, then we have something
called AMPER, which is
the Advanced Microwave
Precipitation Radiometer,
which will study various
aspects of the clouds and
the precipitation within
the storms. We also have
a strong role in the data
systems. Marshall and U.A.
Huntsville are partners in
supplying the GRIP data
system that will manage
the data that GRIP collects
as well as providing data
services to the scientists
and other folks that are
involved in the experiment
during the experiment.
