Hey there everyone, today I've got a full review of the Samsung Galaxy Note III. This
is Samsung's latest smartphone flagship, and it has a lot to offer and some amazing specs.
Starting off with the build of the phone, the Note III is made up of almost entirely
plastic with the exception of the screen. However, everything is well-built and the
plastic gives it that extra durability. The screen has a full resolution of 1920x1080
making this if not the biggest 1080p phone of 2013. The screen features 386 pixels per
inch making the screen very pleasing to look at. However, this is an AMOLED display, which
has it's downfalls. Color saturation is way too high making bright colors look neon - and
because of it's reduced brightness, when in direct sunlight, the screen is hard to see.
Just under the screen, we have our standard looking Samsung home button and two capacitive
controls that can now be triggered by the S Pen.
Below that we have a new addition to the Note series, a USB 3.0 charging port. USB 3.0 allows
for faster charging times and data transfer speeds. The Samsung Galaxy Note III is the
first smartphone to have this technology, but so far in my testing, it didn't make a
huge difference when it came to charging. To the right of that, we have our newly redesigned
S Pen. The stylus brings some new features to the Note III like AirCommand which by clicking
the button on the S Pen, displays five of the most useful S Pen features. It's new sleek
design also gives it reversibility when storing it within the phone.
Moving onto the back, we have a 13 megapixel camera and LED flash. The camera performs
similarly to the Galaxy S4, but where it really shines is with video recording. The Note III's
camera is capable of shooting full-resolution 4K video. And while that sounds pretty cool
on paper, 1.) Most of us don't have 4K TVs to watch
the footage on. 2.) If you take a lot of video, storage is
likely to go fast. When testing in low-light conditions, the
Note III disappoints when compared to something like the HTC One. The Note III's camera is
way behind competition in terms of low-light performance.
Powering the phone, we have a 3200mAh battery that does well - lasting you through the day
with medium to heavy usage. However, because the battery's capacity is so big, it takes
forever for it to charge. Powered by the battery, we have a Quad-core
Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and an Adreno 330 graphics processor all with 3GB of RAM.
These are some pretty awesome specs, but once you get passed the lock screen, you're greeted
with Samsung's famous TouchWiz skin that still experiences occasional lag. I can't really
think of a reason as to why this is happening, but it certainly isn't acceptable with a quad-core
processor. I would much prefer the Note III running stock Android as I would on most third
party Android devices. Overall, I really like the look and feel of
the Note III compared to the Note II. It's squared corners and durable plastic makes
it feel all that more premium. With some improvements to TouchWiz and the camera software, this
could be a really nice phone. But is a 5.7" inch display practical for occasional
phone calls and texting? Let me know how you feel about this phone in the comments below,
and I will see you guys in my next video!
