This week we have another giveaway from Knitter's Pride.
and i am totally excited about this one, because this needle set goes a long way in answering
the question i get every day, what is your favorite kind of interchangeable knitting
needle?
and it's an important question, because investing in an entire set of interchangeable needles
is expensive.
and you want to know that you're going to like the set that you're getting before you
invest in them, right?
well, this set is called the comby interchangeable sampler set, 2.
and it has three kinds of needles that i have been talking a lot about lately, that i really
like.
which are the karbonz needles, which are carbon fiber needles with metal tips.
bamboo needles, and the cubix needles, which are square knitting needles.
this is such a great idea! these little sampler sets like this because it gives you a chance
to try out three very different kinds of needles before you invest in an entire set.
um, this is - oh, let me just tell you exactly what comes in this magical kit.
you get sizes 2.5, 4, and 6 US.
which are 3mm, 3.5mm, and 4mm.
you get two cords, 24" and 32" inch and it also, excuse me, it also comes with the four
end caps and two cord keys.
now, this is a tiny little interchangeable set, meaning you can swap out the different
cords with the different needle tips, and get a lot of different lengths and sizes going
on with this one little kit.
now, to enter this contest - the contest starts today, on January, oh this is such tiny writing.
January 8th, and we are going to pick a winner on January 15th, and announce the winner in
video on January 16th.
to enter the contest, you need to do two things.
the first one is subscribe to my channel.
and the next one is to leave me a comment.
now if you're watching this video somewhere other than YouTube, you need to click here,
on screen to get to the right place to comment.
you are welcome to comment on my website or facebook or wherever else you're seeing this,
but your'e not entered until you comment there.
and please only comment once.
other viewers and youtube might mark your multiple comments as spam if you comment more
than once.
okay, that said.
to leave your comment - tell me the most challenging thing you've ever knit.
challenging for whatever reason, just tell me what it is.
that might give me some new ideas for videos, i'm thinkning.
let's go ahead and take a look at the set.
you have your three sets of needles, i'm going to pull out all three to talk about them.
we'll talk about the cubix first.
and i'm pretty sure this is going to be hard to see on video, but these needles are square.
they're not round.
and they're nickel plated brass, which means they're very fast needles.
they have a nice medium point tip, a good all purpose tip.
and they feel really different in your hands when you grab them, differetn than round needles
in nickel plated brass.
some people say it's more ergonomically correct.
they measure out just like round needles, but they do feel different.
i think it's a nice experience.
i use dpns like this for knitting socks, and i really like them.
so those are the cubix.
the next ones are these light as air bamboo needles.
and these have the same point as the other.
all three of these have pretty much the same medium point tip.
and they are super lightweight, they have a nice feel to them.
if you've used bamboo needles before, these are maybe a bit different.
in that you don't really feel the ridges of the bamboo in these, when you run your thumbnail
along them.
they're really quite smooth.
and these are the carbon fiber needles.
and i recently just started using these and i really like them.
they are different.
[laughs]
i cant describe, they're not really like any other needle.
other than the tip being the nickel plated brass, you have a really fast tip on them
but the carbon fiber material in the middle feels really different.
its warmer than metal, i've been really impressed with these needles.
i've been happy to use them, especially with how lightweight they are.
so i can't finish a product review without showing you how to use these needles.
if you've never used interchangeable needles before.
so you have your three tips, you have your cords.
to start going on going with a pair of these, you want to screw the tip on to the cord.
they're threaded.
you screw them down as tightly as you can by hand.
then you grab a key.
the key goes through a hole in the base of the needle.
whoops, base of the needle here.
and it just gives you something to hang on to so you can tighten it up the rest of the
way.
and once you do that, the join is very smooth.
the kit also comes with these end caps, which you can put on the end of the needle, on the
end of the cord.
in place of the needle.
and if you have an end cap on each end, that can act as a stitch marker if you need the
tips for something else.
to remove the needle, you need the key again.
put it through the hole in the base of the cord, and then just unscrew the needle.
and that's it!
of course everyone can't win the contest, i'll give you links to where you can find
a set like this for yourself in the US, and i'll give you a link to the knitter's pride
knit pro website where you can find a retailer near you if you're outside of the US or Canada.
this is a really good way to test out different needle tips before you invest in an entire
interchangeable set.
whether you win or not!
good luck with the contest.
