Hello and welcome to SamsungMania.cz
In front of me, you can see Samsung Galaxy Y Duos, which is based on Samsung Galaxy Y.
From the front panel you immediately know, you have something to do with a Dual SIM smartphone because of Duos logo, which is typical of Samsung dual SIM cellphones.
Galaxy Y Duos is marked towards undemanding users, who still want to have two SIM cards beiing accessible in the same time.
Display has 3,14" diagonal and resolution 240 x 320 pixels.
Under the screen you will find traditional buttons for Android phones (in this phone, we are talking about Android Gingerbread 2.3.6). On the left there is context button, on the right back key and Home key in the middle.
On the left side, there are volume control buttons and strap hole
On the right side, there is lock (on/off) button.
On the bottom, there is microUSB connector used for charging and data transfer with PC.
On the top side, there is 3,5mm jack for connection your own headphones.
Back cover is made from matt plastic, thet's why you don't see many fingerprints on it, which you could on the similar phones in the past.
3Mpix camera lacks auto focus, near the sensor you will find main speaker.
The most interesting facts are hidden inside the device.
Let's look under the cover.
There is 1300mAh battery, but more important are two SIM slots.
Left is marked as a SIM 1, right as a SIM 2.
To the left slot put SIM, you want to use high speed data with, because 3G modem is connected only with this slot.
SIM number two is additional SIM and can be also used for mobile data, but you can expect EDGE at maximum.
We will put this phone together, turn it on and we will look on, how is dual SIM support implemented inside.
So our phone is booting up, you can see phone has product name GT-S6102, that's shown because you shouldn't be mistaken between Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Duos.
Here in Czech republic, Galaxy Y was sold only from carrier O2, on the open market you can find this dual SIM version.
Now we are going to enter PIN codes for both SIM cards.
We have unlocked 1st and 2nd card. Both SIM cards are now available for incoming calls.
Now you see classic user interface made by Samsung called TouchWiz above the Android 2.3.6
If you have used some older Samsung smartphones with TouchWiz, you will be like a back at home.
Let's look on major differences from other models.
Main difference is seen on the first look, two signal indicators, with numer indication SIM, which is actualy set as main.
If you roll down, you can see SIM card swtich. You can set, which SIM will be used for outgoing calls and messages.
For each card you can set own background and own notification and ringtone.
Now I switch card and background is instantly changed. It is usefull for visual determining what SIM card are you actually using.
In phonebook you can see, from which SIM card desired contact comes from.
Next change is on lockscreen. When unlocking, you must move your finger from lock towards circle.
If you have missed call of unread message you can unlock screen while undread messages or missed calls dialog suddenly appears.
Among other news, there is widget showing actual RAM capacity and widget for firmware update.
For controlling phone, both side keys are sensoric and they have no vibration response. Sometimes my touches aren't event noticed.
From basic installed applications there is Social Hub, which takes cares about whole text communication. Widget News and Weather shows weather on desired location and various news headers.
There is also Office document viever Polaris. Creating new files is not supported though.
Of course, there is Google Navigation based on Google Maps, for buing application you can use Market (former name, now it is Google Play) or SamsungApps store.
In the package you will find 2GB microSD card with SD adapter, user manual, USB cabel and charger
We are now testing this device, expect review soon.
Thanks for watching.
