God is amazing. He controls a lot of things. He created the world. And he runs the show.
As a rabbi, it's my job really to help the Jewish people grow and to keep them strong in their Jewish practices. So, qua a Jewish agent, qua an agent of God, not necessarily so, but I think that it helps to inject a sense of fear of God into my work.
For me, I feel ever since I was a kid that God exists. It's largely an ambient feeing that God's around, he's present. But at the same time, it's not so much necessarily a sense of fear. It's more a sense of I know that there's something guiding the system.
So, it's an interesting thing. For me, it's largely more of an awe, especially when I see magisterial pieces of mountain, of sky, of ocean, whatever it may be. And that, for me, strikes me with this amazing sense of awe about God. It's not necessarily so much fear as being afraid, per se, but there are some times where I have that sense.
When I was exposed to the God idea at a young age - maybe seven or eight, give or take - it just made sense to me. Inasmuch as we see light signals guiding us, why it could be a certain time that we arrive at a certain place, maybe there's certain traffic, for instance, going with the car metaphor. If there's certain traffic patterns, how come it happens one way and not another? And I just trust that God runs the show.
