This video will demonstrate how quick and easy it is to install the ADA Handicapped Decal
from stop-painting.com
It is important to check the weather before you begin.
Do not install the decal if rainfall has occurred or is expected within 24 hours
of installation.
Air and surface temperature must be at least 60 degrees fahrenheit and rising.
Examine the paved surface where decal is to be applied.
Do not install over damaged asphalt, cracked paint, or other deteriorating markings.
Before removing the adhesive backing, position the decal.
Center it into the parking space, where it will be out of the way of the direct wheel paths.
Centering will help to ensure that the decal experiences the minimum amount of
wear from the twisting and turning of tires.
Trace the decal with a marker or chalk to create an outline of the decal on the
pavement.
Then thoroughly sweep the surface clean.
You can also use high pressure air to blow the pavement clean.
Next, we will apply surface primer.
If the surface has been newly paved within the previous 30 days, applying primer is not necessary.
Pour the surface primer onto the clean area.
Roll it to evenly coat the area.
Make sure to extend the primer at least 1" beyond the outline.
Do not over roll the primer.
When you begin to see cobweb like strands like these, the primer has been adequately rolled,
and the rolling should stop at this point.
Allow the primer to dry for approximately 1 to 3 minutes.
Check your primer by touching with your fingertips. If the primer transfers to your fingertips,
it needs to dry longer. It should be completely dry before installing the decal.
Carefully peel the adhesive backing from just the corner of the decal and align it with the corner
of the outline on the pavement.
Pressed down firmly and continue peeling off the liner across the edge as you position it on
the outline.
Do not reposition the decal once it has been applied.
Next you will need to tamp the decal using either a tamper cart or a vehicle.
Our tamper cart has a metal platform that holds weights that apply at least 200 pounds
of pressure.
Notice the soft rubber roller that forces the adhesive to make contact with the road surface.
Never twist or turn the tamping device while it is on top of the decal.
Pass over the decal at least 3 times back and forth to ensure the decal has completely
conformed to the surface.
When tamping is complete, you can open the space to traffic immediately.
