Hello, I am Marcel Reedijk.
We are in Strijen on the islands of the province of Zuid-Holland.
We grow cherry tomatoes here, specially selected for the German market.
Why do we grow cherry tomatoes?
Because cherry tomatoes are very moreish.
They are easy for small children in particular to put in their mouths without making a mess.
This tomato has a terrifically sweet taste.
As you can see, the topmost tomatoes are nice and red...
the ones below are a bit orange and below that, you get the green ones.
In x weeks’ time, the tomatoes at the bottom will be just as big and nice and red as the top ones.
With cherry tomatoes, we want to produce as many as possible.
We don’t take off flowers to get nicer trusses.
But because these are small tomatoes and we harvest regularly...
the plant can easily cope with producing such big trusses.
To go from a flower like this one to a first red truss will take approximately between 7 and 9 weeks.
The tomatoes hanging from this tomato plant can be packaged like this..
...and be on the consumer’s table within 48 hours.
If you have questions about my tomatoes, I will be pleased to answer them.
